On June 28th, we arrived in Anchorage (from the Space Coast of Florida) in order to visit my brother whom is stationed with the Army. We found this beautiful home after searching several locations near by. The owner was very knowledgeable about some things to do around the property such as trails, the wildlife conservation and the old mining town. A lot of what there is to do in the area is only a short car ride from the cabin. The views from the trip to the cabin are breathtaking. The home was warm, very cozy and beautiful all around. You will love the sauna shower on the first floor. The wrap around windows on the first floor showed a wonderful view of the property. I suggest opening the rolling windows as there is a creek that runs through the property and the sounds of nature make you feel as if you are out in the open air.The home had many accommodations for sleeping quarters for our medium size group of seven. My son loved going on walks around the neighborhood(don't forget the bear spray) and playing at the park down the road from the cabin. There is a small grocery store near by as Anchorage is about an hour drive. The neighbors were very friendly and even helped us when we encountered our first bear of the trip. FYI make sure to secure the trash can because he definitely got some goodies during our stay. Some things I would like to suggest would be Beluga Point as you drive into Anchorage, the quaint mining town in the mountains, Portage Glacier boat tours, trails near the Aleyska Resort, and there is also a beautiful waterfall only a five minute car ride from the cabin as well. There is so much to see and we tried to experience everything but unfortunately time was limited. We hope to one day travel back to Alaska and if the cabin is available we will definitely try to stay again.
