The space itself was warm and inviting, and we appreciated extras like the long-life milk provided on arrival.
However, future guests should know that the cottage is a converted garage on the same property as a larger main house. The entrance, parking area, and front lawn are shared with the main house.
During our stay, we noticed there were other people in the main house (we’re not sure if they were other guests or the host’s family), so we weren’t as completely secluded as we initially thought we’d be. This setup wasn’t as private as expected and it did come as a surprise because the listing hadn’t mentioned the shared property aspect explicitly.
This information was not communicated clearly in the listing. This is important information for us and future guests to have upfront so we can make an informed decision.
Polite suggestions for improvements.
A couple of small changes could make the stay even better. For instance, the bathroom towel hooks are placed below waist height right beside the sink, which makes them impractical for hanging clean towels or clothes—items hung there can get wet or remain out of reach from the shower.
It would also be helpful to have coasters and table mats to protect the furniture, and to update some of the worn cooking utensils and pans in the kitchen.
Overall, we had a pleasant stay, and with these minor tweaks, the cottage would be even better.
