Great hotel close to attractions

Great location and staff. My only negative was the cockroach in the bathroom one morning.

The first room I was in was filthy. I went to bed laid in the sheets, and they were never even changed the next room that I got had hair in the shower. The staff was wonderful, but the cleanliness was disgusting.

Disappointed on my last trip at Ryder. Stayed here before and had a good experience BUT this was the first time I tried to use the pool. There are 11 lounge chairs and it’s first come first serve. Fair. But what’s not fair is they sell day passes to people who are NOT staying on the property. So there are not enough chairs for your guests but you sell spots to others? Our plan was to have a girls trip by the pool. The Ryder had other plans for us. Next time I will stay somewhere else.

Completely overpriced and underwhelmed!

I am still in shock over the amount of money I just paid for our stay. Small boutique hotel in good location, with great marketing advertising…but what you actually get is along line of 2 star hotel. The tiny pool and small bar is quaint -it is trendy with lots of bachelorette parties going on. The front desk attendant at night was no help at all and 1/2 time no one was manning the lobby area and very non helpful staff Our room smelled of mildew and the lighting was dim at best. Had a view of alley. For $900 on a Friday night I expected way more. Not enough towels, no Kleenex and no fridge or coffee maker in room. Couldn’t believe my daughter and I had to share a bed and couldn’t find us a 2 queen bed room when requested months in advance. Threw away our room service food because undercooked. Carpet unclean and old in hallways. Where is the southern hospitality? Wow-so much buyers remorse right now. Luckily it didn’t influence the good time we had in Charleston, but wouldn’t recommend hotel at all.

We had to change rooms due to a DJ playing on Friday and Saturday nights—the music was extremely loud until 2AM, which made it hard to sleep. While the location was excellent and the staff were wonderful, the overall property was just okay.

Gorgeous hotel - a little noisy at night

Great adult hotel. I was traveling alone and it was perfect. There were a lot of adult couples and older family groups staying there and it is a perfect sunny retreat. My kids wouldn’t have loved the pool area, it’s for cocktails not cannonballs! I found the hallways noisy until past midnight, during the week. It’s a fun hotel - I definitely would have liked a white noise machine.

The location of this property is great; easily walkable to shopping and dining options. The decor is Scandinavian chic with wood floors in the rooms. The front desk is a small area next to a room with gear you can use during your stay. While that's a cool feature, it would be hard to use skate boards on the cobbled streets. The hotel places a $300 hold on your card for incidentals which was not stated in Expedia so a bit frustrating. The rooms do not include a coffee maker so they give you $10 per day that you can use at their coffee bar. The coffee bar is only open in the morning which was disappointing as we loved the Cairo coffee! The single elevator is small but you don't need it as the stairs are easier to use. The hotel shape includes three LONG hallways on each floor so be prepared to walk a distance if your on the long hallway furthest from the elevators. The carpet in the hallways is TIRED and really needs to be replaced. Just outside the stairway/elevator there is a great ice machine and water station. Each room includes an ice bucket and water carafe which was a great feature. That said, there are a LOT of young people staying at this property so I at least expected to find a bottle opener and corkscrew but neither were in the room. We purchased a bottle of wine from the 'mini' Target on the main shopping street and could not get a corkscrew from the front desk nor the restaurant. If ever in Charleston again, I would book another property.
