Overall the house was okay, its just an older model home and needs more improvements done! Over all we enjoyed ourselves

Upon arrival we saw several dogs, a goat and horse in the yard. I called the owner and he came out the back. He said those animals would stay in the front yard so we’d have to enter and exit through the back door. My husband and myself walked through and the elderly owner was kind but underprepared. The house smelled like dogs, dogs ran up to us and actually peed on the carpet infront of us. The owner stated his wife had recently passed and he had been trying to clean for weeks. We felt bad for him but due to the lack of cleanliness, clutter, animals, several dog cages throughout the property, no clean bedding, dirty floors, dirty kitchen (tables and dishes had dog hair on it) etc… we had to leave the property because we had drove 14 hours from Chicago to spend Thanksgiving there with family. Unfortunately we had to find a hotel room to all of us. It was 6 children and 3 adults in the car and we were just in utter disbelief at what we were walking into. Vrbo refuses to give us a refund and said the refund is at the discretion of the owner. They said every time they call him to talk about the complaint he hangs us. We really would like a refund and an apology for the inconvenience. We’ll never book through Vrbo again! They said this owner can still post and rent his home out but they won’t return our money …. This is crazy!
