The cottage was well maintained and well furnished, it was a perfect place to relax and unwind. My only suggestion is a rug in the bathroom because the floor is real slick.
The location was nice, in the country. Place was clean and the housekeeper came as we were checking in and made sure we had everything. Kitchen is decent, and bedroom on first floor is nice. But the rest of the place needs a lot of work. Most of the windows did not work well, or even open at all. The ones that did, upstairs, did not have any screens at all! It was hot up there, so we had to leave them open and so we had lots of flies and bugs the whole time we were there. Photos make this place look a lot better than it was in real life! We ended up leaving a day early.
Very cute little cottage tucked away in the trees. Lovely little house with everything you need. Close to a little grocery market, and minutes from the ferry which made finding it and leaving a breeze.
The house was adequate. We had plenty of space for our family. The musty oder affected my sinuses in a negative way. The master bed mattress was old and could use replacing. There were cracked windows that were duct tape together.
The house smelled very damp, only had one small mirror in the bathroom, had a weird layout, spotty internet, a 10 digit access code that didnât work and a bed that was so high it was hard to get in to. The are better places to stay on the island. It was disappointing.
This vacation rental was alright for staying overnight but not a place we would spend much time. It is an older home, with some remodeling. We were there in early April with temps in the 40s and rain- the heat was inadequate. The bathtub was old and slippery, grab bars but no anti-slip bathmat. The bed was at least 3ft off the ground- unnecessary and difficult to get in- with one side step stool) and a too soft mattress (I know some people may like that). The step up to the front porch/ deck is high/difficult for someone with mobility issues. And, is there a reason that the code for the entry is 10 digits- typically 4-6 so that you can remember the code when going in and out.
I stayed at the house in February and the weather was cold. The wood stove isnât just charming - itâs the main heat source for the whole house. (There are some little space heaters as well.) Bring firewood with you. I also wished I had brought slippers!
The other reviewers are right, the house smells musty. Aside from that, itâs spacious, had everything I wanted in the kitchen, and worked well for my writing trip on my own. I felt very comfortable in the neighborhood.
The bed in the bedroom on the ground floor is raised up and has a footstool to climb into it. All other beds are upstairs in one large room.
I was here for 5 days with my husband- the house does not heat well, the fans are dusty, and the main bedroom bed is a piece of memory foam on top of a hard mattress which is extremely uncomfortable.
On top of this, my husband got locked out without his phone and tried to get back in (in broad daylight at 1pm, when we had booked late checkout already for 2pm) and the owners of this property who seem to be right across the way called the police on him no questions asked and no phone call to me (the person who booked). AFTER this all happened an agent from Vacasa called me and essentially said nothing could be done about this situation.
Be cautious if you choose to book here, and maybe don't book with Vacasa.
Older home with some updates. Very clean. It had everything we needed. It would have been nice to have coffee and a couple bottles of water available on arrival. I loved the heated floor in the bathroom. The stairs to the upper bedroom were slippery. Owner definitely needs to add treds on stairs. I would stay again.
As other reviews noted, it smells like an old house. However, it is clean and functional. About 15min drive to most parks and locations in South Whidbey Island. Fairly quiet except for occasional traffic noise. My young kids enjoyed it as well.
The house was a good location but it has a very weird lay=out which made it awkward and it smelled musty. It would have been an ok price as listed but not when the added fees were included. I wouldn't stay there again.
Great Location. We stayed close to friends and only used the place for sleeping. It was clean but it is old and smells musty. We didnât use the kitchen but it appeared to be well stocked if you did plan on using it. The pictures are light and bright online. It is nestled in a wooded area and was darker in reality. It was quiet and you are surrounded by nature.
The Pros: Reasonable price, quiet neighborhood, decent beds and bedding, kitchen with cooking stuff (not the greatest quality or even enough of some things though)
The Cons: The musty smell others mentioned is a real thing. Our friends who were with us didn't seem to mind. "Smells like Grandma's house." one said. It bothered me.
Some of the kitchen equipment is really bad - "non-stick" pans from last century, rusty knives etc.
The windows are filthy as are the window tracks - full of bugs.
The screen door, as many have said, is just ridiculous. When you wanted to go on the porch, you'd realize what a struggle it would be and just give up!
There were cobwebs in the corners and on the ceilings and vents.
To sum up, if you are there with a family with kids, it's a pretty good choice. Four beds upstairs- great for kids (although the wooden stairs are steep and slippery). But if you want a spotless, luxury retreat, this place is not for you.
We enjoyed our stay in this cute cottage. There is adequate space to accommodate more people as long as you can manage with one bathroom. There were no instructions for use of the TV (there's WiFi but we could't find any local channels for news) or fireplace (no starter kindling provided or how to properly light this type of unit). There were also no instructions for check-out. I called and was told to wash my own towels and sheets, which is fine except that when we ran the towels at night there is no door on the laundry room so it was loud throughout the cottage. There is no full length mirror, just one small mirror in the bathroom. The bathroom floors are heated, which is a plus when the weather is cold but there were no instructions on how to turn it off. All in all the cottage was well suited for our needs.
We had a nice stay at the Country Escape, and my 4-year-old and 2-year-old in particular enjoyed sleeping in their little beds in "the attic" (but watch your heads up there if you're a grown up!). The layout is a bit unusual, and the house is older, so probably a best fit for folks who don't mind a bit more rustic experience. We appreciated the wood stove on our first rainy day on the island, and the location close the ferry was convenient for us. Everything that mattered most was clean (linens, dishes), but it was a bit cobwebby and dusty in places (again, it's an old house, so somewhat expected). We would stay again if we found ourselves on the island.
