Everything about our stay was impeccable! The gardens were absolutely magnificent, the house was beautifully decorated. It was such a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere. Our host was truly exceptional- warm and attentive, making us feel right at home. We enjoyed the house so much that we actually canceled our plans to visit the local attractions just to spend more time relaxing in the wonderful rooms and soaking in the serene setting.
This was a beautiful property. The gardens were some of the best we have seen and the home was like staying in a museum but warm and cozy. My wife kept giggling like Elizabeth when she went to Mr Darcyâs home in Pride and Prejudice. It really was splendid around every corner of the house. Michael made sure we had a great dinner reservation as well. Our best stay in all of Ireland.
The good, the bad and the ugly. First the good. Charming hosting quirky rooms full of period furniture. The badâŠ. Missing some minor amenities such as tissues in the room and tea maker and maybe fur some bad as no tv. Ugly ⊠the quality of mattress and sleep was appalling . Thin worn out mattress and foam pillows meant very disturbed sleep.
Superb atmosphere, furnishings and period pieces. First class breakfast and rooms were beautifullly decorated. Owner Michael was a perfect host and provided great information and support. My highest recommendation.
The property was lovely and unique, dating back to the 1700s, and totally renovated by the owners. The decor was exquisite and carefully planned to reflect the time period.
The owner was congenial, helpful and informative. We were offered tea and cake upon arrival and an amazing breakfast in the morning!
True "old world charm" in a fairytale garden setting. Michael couldn't have been more helpful and even made sure we were out the door on time for our Newgrange tour. Wish that we could have stayed longer. AWESOME breakfast!
We stayed one night just before leaving Ireland, coming down from Belfast. We didn't really get to spend much time in Collon, but the proprietor was super friendly, helpful in terms of tips (getting gas for the rental ahead of the airport for example) and gave us a great breakfast ahead of our travel day when it worked for us. The room was huge, too and the bed was cozy. It was a nice change after a week in hotels!
It is an 18th century Manor with superb gardens that are internationally recognized. Michael is a wonderful host and takes great care of his guests. We would certainly stay there again.
Staying here was an delightful experience. You are in a grand house that was built in 1740 and has been beautifully and lovingly restored. Michael is the proprietor and is very friendly and easy to talk to. The gardens are lovely and there are several restaurants within easy walking distance of this charming small town. Highly recommend.
If one wants to be immersed in a historic house and intimate beautiful garden setting, Collon House will not disappoint. The host was gracious and welcoming, sending us off with an excellent full Irish breakfast. The location is perfect for exploring NewGrange and the Boyne River Valley.
The Collon House was one of the highlights of our trip to Ireland. It is an incredible property located in Collon, Ireland with an intriguing history. The owners were gracious and eager to share their home's history. The antiques were a compilation of 30 years of hunting and acquiring and were simply exceptional. The gardens were well-manicured and absolutely lovely. I had texted Micheal before we came and told him of my food allergies. He was so kind and made dinner reservations for us at an award-winning restaurant within walking distance from the house. No. 3 was incredible! The wine list was as big as a telephone book and with so many gf/df/Veg/V options I had more choices dining out than ever. Michael made me the most incredible gf/df breakfast I think I'd ever had the following morning and the presentation in the grand living room with elegant silver and china made us feel like royalty. We loved it! We will definitely go back. Plan a night in this little gem for sure.
If you like history and an opportunity to immerse yourself in a grand house, Collon House is pefect. Michael is a consummate host, an astute and knowledgable historian, and a fanstastic conversationalist. Our room was well-appointed with antiques, and the full breakfast was delicious and served in a heap of tradition. Highly recommend!
Great airy, well-furnished historic rooms.
Lovely gardens.
Gracious and accommodating host.
Breakfast could not have been better; served in early 19th century setting.
I usually do not write reviews but felt this place neededa review. Some travelers will love it but most will not.
If you like historic period places you will really enjoy it.
If you like B&B you will like it. If you are looking for modern conforts stay away. No air conditioning, the instant hot water is run through an undersized electric heater causing busts of hot and cold making a shower very difficult. It is very difficult to find the property ( a small overgrown plaque on the stone wall) and no reception area. The owner at first is off putting but once you get to know him is very nice. Remember you are in someone's home - their rules. To recap a great place if you want local culture and historic period arrangements but not for most. We enjoyed it.
