10/10 Excellent

This was our 7th trip to Culebra and our first time at this rental. Overall I’d say it’s deserving of its 5-star rating. The house is fully open-air inside, which creates great airflow but no privacy (snoring, bathrooms, etc). Fortunately we traveled with another couple we know well.Views face east, so sunrises are the event. The house is isolated, so plan to drive for food or activities. Walking anywhere is not really an option. Wi-Fi was excellent for remote work. The deck faces into the tradewinds, which sometimes made it too windy to sit outside (cushions blown off chairs). Strong winds could be loud at night. The upside is that AC isn’t needed, though generator-powered units are available. If you sleep cold, bring warmer pajamas since the bedding is light. The driveway is very steep. 4WD or AWD vehicle isn’t optional, since parts are gravel and loose rocks collect even on the paved areas. Hot water in the kitchen and bathroom was intermittent. Sometimes turning the faucet off and back on helped, sometimes not. It puzzled three scientists not being able to figure it out, but it’s Culebra after all.The house is solar and we had no problems with it. The kitchen was well stocked with some basics. Keeping doors and screens closed kept bugs out. This was the least buggy Culebra rental we’ve stayed in, and pest control visited while we were there for preventative spraying. We’d definitely consider staying here again, but probably only if it were just the two of us.
