This was our second stay at Oak Grove B&B, and we definitely plan to stay again! Both times, we have had a great experience. The accessibility of the library room is great, the room is clean and just as beautiful as in the pictures. Pickett and Mike are super friendly and accommodating, and the breakfast is absolutely fantastic! Oh, and the pups, Ethos and India, are awesome, as well!
We had a wonderful time staying at Oak Grove B&B. The hosts were excellent! Breakfast was very good and different every day (we stayed for 7 days). Beautiful room and amenities. We will definitely stay there again!!!
No ice. Didnât clean or refill coffee station. Didnât make bed or vacuum. Visible drip stains on wallpaper never cleaned. Smelled of cigarettes and marijuana throughout hotel.
What a unique experience! The owners are lovely and kind, and their two dogs are sweet! The food was delicious! I was blown away by how eco-friendly the house isâdual flush toilets, rain barrels, solar panels, tankless water heater, electric vehicle charging station, etc. I really enjoyed learning about the history of the property. Itâs been in the ownerâs family for 200 years and theyâve diligently documented its story. Thereâs lots of space/trails to walk. We stayed in the library room which has a neat stove, lots of books, etc.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay at Oak Grove Plantation. We were given a full explanation of where to find what we needed and how to operate things like the door lock. The owners were very pleasant to talk to, but they also gave us space to be by ourselves when we weren't having breakfast. The grounds are very quiet and worth taking the time to walk around. Guests should know in advance that there are 3 large dogs on the property who are quite lovely, but one might want to be aware of them in case of allergies or fear of dogs. The breakfasts were moderate in size, tasty, and served on antique plates from the family. Learning about the family history and the property was also a plys for us.
We were very delighted with our stay at Oak Grove Plantation. The room was very comfortable and had a huge selection of antique books. My husband was attending a track event at VIR (reason for our trip) and Pickett was so accommodating in providing us a "box breakfast" to bring with us. She was also very helpful with restaurant suggestions and other activities. We highly recommend this inn!
Our room was extra special as it was part of an historic home. We had a lovely breakfast with our hosts Pickett and Mike. We enjoyed hearing the history of the home.
Hostess gave thorough historical tour of house and background of owners. Breakfast was fresh and hot, conversation fun and the hostess accepted gift card. Land to explore. Quiet and able to hear the birds and a passing coal train. Loved the upstairs balcony off the bathroom.
We stayed in the Library room on our way south. It was very comfortable and peaceful, and felt authentically historic. Pickett and Mike (and their 2 very friendly dogs) were marvelous hosts. We were travelling with our 6 month old who was made to feel as welcome as we were round the table at breakfast. Speaking of which, the food was delicious. The grounds are large and wooded and theres a few enjoyable trails which we all loved exploring. I would highly recommend Oak Grove Plantation.
Pickett was awesome. She gave us excellent recommendations for local trails, restaurants and things to see in the area. She made homemade lemonade and the breakfast the next morning was superb. We will be visiting there again
A beautiful place to stay. Full of history and comfort. We stayed in the library room and were completely satisfied. Service was excellent, the property story was very interesting, the food was delicious, and the coffee was happily poured. Cannot say enough about this wonderful bed and breakfast and the innkeeper. So glad we had this experience.
My family enjoyed a truly wonderful weekend at Oak Grove Plantation, every bit as beautiful and comfortable as other reviews suggest. It was a welcome retreat from our home just outside Washington, D.C., but we had a little more excitement than we had anticipated when we lost our car keys in a kayaking mishap. We were unable to find a rental car and very nearly stranded, but Pickett and Mike very graciously lent us their car to make the two-hour trip to Richmond, where my elder son met us with the spare keys. We had far more help from Pickett and Mike than we could have reasonably expected; it is clear how dedicated they are to taking care of their guests, which is in turn reflected in their friendliness and hospitality, even in the absence of such misadventures!
Oak Grove Plantation is situated in a quiet place away from the noise of the world. There is no TV in the rooms, which suited me fine. You can always use your laptop or notebook to watch what you like. I appreciated the peacefulness of the quiet surroundings. Pickett gave a terrific historical tour of the home, detailing the most interesting aspects of the house. I was spoiled as the only visitor for the two nights I was there. Fresh flowers and excellent homemade breakfasts were very nice.
Oak Grove Plantation is a beautiful, comfortable, friendly place. But beyond the basics, Pickett and Mike really made us feel at home. What incredible warm human quality. Also, love their green focus, including the EV charging stations. Congratulations Pickett and Mike for your wonderful place!!
My husband and I stayed here on our way to Norfolk. The house is so beautiful and so well maintained. Our room was lovely and so spacious. The hosts are so very warm and welcoming. The breakfast was delicious. I loved the fact that our hosts had breakfast with us. Would definitely recommend Oak Grove Plantation as an excellent stopover.
We had a wonderful stay at The Oak Grove Plantation during a visit to see family in Hyco Lake...way better than staying in a hotel! We wish we could have spent more of our time here. Tucked down a long driveway on an already quiet country road, the serene setting is perfect for anyone wanting a quiet and peaceful getaway. The grand historical homestead, the surroundings and Pickett's stories of her family take you back in time. The home is meticulously maintained and clean, not a speck of dust picked up walking across the floors of an 1820s home in your bare feet. You'd also expect such an old home to have stagnant air, but the A/C had the circulation of a new home, and there was no mustiness at all. Plenty of room for a family in the upstairs suite. The new mattresses are super comfortable. That combined with the complete dark and quiet provided a perfect night's sleep. We loved Pickett's hospitality and yummy breakfast, and the resident dogs India and Niko were sweet and entertaining. You won't be disappointed!
We had an excellent experience at Oak Grove this past weekend. Four adults and two toddlers enjoyed exploring the grounds, the surrounding areas, and the house at Oak Grove. Innkeeper Pickett Craddock is wonderful company and made breakfasts on both days that were fantastic and enjoyed by both young and old. Highly recommended.
