We really enjoyed our stay here. The cabin was beautiful with a fully stocked kitchen. The cabin had plenty of room with lots of games for the kids. It was a very enjoyable weekend and we look forward to going back.
If you can go during daylight, check-in might be good. Otherwise, prepare for total darkness down a gravel road trying to find the numbers of the house and when you do there are two different numbers on each house. There are no lights turned on at this house and there are no railings on the platform that you have to go up on to get to the steps, as my mother fell, and ripped her arm open and hurt her hip and the owners could care less. The kitchen is beautiful, but dirty. The coffee pot had disgusting layers of mold that we had to chisel out. We found food on the floor with hair on it. A childâs sock on the dining room floor, and we only had older adults! So clearly it wasnât vacuumed. Cobwebs from the ceiling fan. Downstairs pull-out couch bed isnât close to sleepable, itâs so con-caved and filthy, with what looked like bedbugs. NO hot tub as stated in ad and on VRBO site twice, jacuzzi bath tub stated, does NOT work. Both gas grills, disgusting (dirty) One of the worst I have stayed in in the last 10 years. When owner was contacted about these things, she stated that my concerns were not legitimate and I was being insulting. I have copies of that as well, if anyone needs more information, please contact me. I have more photos.
We enjoyed every part of our stay! There was plenty of space, comfortable furniture, and cozy vibes! The only thing I would possibly change is adding a baby gate (or communicating one may be needed for littles). Overall, it was a great experience!
Great little quick weekend getaway! The house was super clean, nicely decorated, and very cozy. The kitchen seemed to be very well stocked with cookware, dishes, utensils, but we didnât use them as we opted to eat our meals out in local restaurants. Plenty of room to sleep with lots of extra blankets, etc. Check-in and check-out were both a breeze. The host was very responsive and kind.
This is a great, comfortable home located in a quiet tucked-away cul-de-sac. Beautifully furnished and all the amenities we wanted and needed. Excellent communication from Lisa our host. Would definitely stay there again.
The cabin was very clean, the host was great and very responsive, cabin was right beside of everything we wanted to do while in Canaan, and it was a beautiful property. No complaints, only positives from our weekend. Would recommend to a friend and book again.
The house was beautiful overall and has everything you need for your stay. Unfortunately it also came with a few unwanted surprises. The pool has been drained and not functional for 3 years per the lodge staff, we found that out days into our trip. Also days into our trip we found lots of mouse poop in ALL the kitchen drawers, even stuck to knives and other silverware. The jaccuzi tub doesn't just work from the tub, but you have to put your hand through the closet wall in the bedroom and plug it into a backwards outlet. Also when we arrived, the whole place was filthy dirty and my whole family had to clean it for over an hour, after the cleaner left and had to do four loads of laundry for bedding. Book with caution.
Check in was easy - the place was very clean. 3 bathrooms were a plus. Kitchen was well-equipped, and we were thrilled with the 2 snack baskets. The main room was perfect for late night conversations. We would highly recommend this unit.
Very nice property . Quiet and relaxing . Little bit of a drive to the slopes . but that was ok. Ski lift tickets are just too much money imo. Shame takes all the fun out of the sport . Nearest town Davis for me was a little bit too quiet. The one Italian restaurant there was always jumping . And not really a great deal else to choose from for dinner . One supermarket overpriced . Plenty of art galleries , craft / small boutiques if you like that sort of thing . I don't go to a ski area to buy a painting or an antique . We had bad luck with weather only one day the snow stayed then rained over Christmas . Spoils the Christmassy feeling. We had Christmas dinner at the Canaan Valley Resort . Went at 5.30 ( buffet). Sadly they did not replace the variety of desserts that we saw upon entering. So there was only brownies . Food was ok. Not fantastic . But not a lot of other options out there . Beautiful area but if the weather doesn't oblige it's rather boring as one can't hike climb etc . Oh well perhaps better luck next time
Great house and location for an active family getaway
Our two twenty-something sons and one daughter-in-law enjoy meeting somewhere to share meals (both cooking together and eating out), board games, and outdoor activities. Mid-December is an unpredictable time of year, but itâs when we had the opportunity - and this house helped us make the best of it. The kitchen was well-supplied for cooking breakfasts and one dinner. On one rainy day we ended up playing board games (our own that we brought) in the very comfortable living area. We visited Blackwater Falls in the morning before rain hit and had lunch at Hellbender Burritos. There was a somewhat unexpected snowfall of 6-8 inches, and some of us skied on the slopes at Timberline while a couple cross-country skied on the fresh snow and enjoyed soup at White Grass.
The Wifi was fine for a couple of the young adults to work and attend online meetings and also to stream a movie in the evening. Password is on the modem and on the refrigerator.
It became crucial that both our cars have all-wheel drive and that weâre experienced driving on hills and in falling snow! At the house a snow shovel was right outside the door.
Check-in and check out were super-easy. We initially had trouble figuring out which house it was (Google Maps took us to the house next door - the unit number is key). Lisa was very responsive though we figured it out just after calling her. Checkout instructions are in a notebook and straightforward - I also texted Lisa at check-out and she replied instantly.
This was a beautiful, well kept and clean property! It had everything we could want and more. It was perfect for my mom, my kids, and I to enjoy nature, and come back to all the perks of a home. All the main park trails and sites were closeby and easy to find. Best star gazing experience we've had in years! Peaceful and quiet, and everyone we met was welcoming and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to for a relaxing getaway.
House was clean & well taken care of. Itâs in a great secluded location if youâre looking for peace & quiet. Lisa was also very friendly & helpful for when I had questions!
This property perfectly suited our needs. It's exactly as described and close to everything we wanted to do. We were a little bummed that the pool is closed and the arcade is gone but that's not the fault of the property owner. Lisa couldn't be more fantastic. She is very responsive and very helpful. We had a wonderful stay!
This house was great for our family. So close to Davis and Thomas and Blackwater Falls State Park. We also enjoyed fishing in the resort and top on everyoneâs list was star gazing from the large deck!! Just beautiful skies!!!
The house was well appointed with amenities especially towels. Our family never had to wash towels one time all week!! Kitchen was great for preparing all our meals and the fridge accommodated all we brought! Large table allowed us all to eat together Nice to have garbage pick up from the driveway daily!
Hope to come back to see the Fall colors.
Davis, WV is beautiful. The house rental was more than pleasing and nicely decorated. Plenty of room for a large family. Quaint. I didnât like the lodge closing at 5pm and the pool not being usable. People do things all day and would like to relax at the lodge and play pool and we werenât able to because it closed at 5 PM and I purposely booked this location because of the pool and the pool is not up and running.
We have been staying at Black Bear since they opened and this was by far one of our favorite cabins. It was clean, well stocked, and beautifully decorated. Will definitely stay here again!
My family had a wonderful stay at this well-kept beautiful, luxurious cabin. We use VRBO on a regular basis and this is our first trip to Black water falls for hiking. This home did not disappoint. We loved the location, and the host was extremely thoughtful by providing everything you would need to have a wonderful stay. We highly recommend this adorable home, and we recommended it to all our friends and family. Our only regret is that we could have stayed longer. There were so many hikes and activities we did not get to. Our family will definitely come back.
Wonderful home in the beautiful woods of West Virginia
We had a lovely stay. The house has a beautiful view of the woods and nearby ridge. It is quiet and serene. The house is very well-maintained and feels like a home. The owner was very responsive and helpful with area activities.
