Our check in went smoothly and the front desk agent could not have been more competent! Thank you for the option to add on breakfast, the buffet was plentiful and had a nice variety. Walking to the train stop made it very convenient to get downtown. The only issue we had was confusion on how to control the room temperature. Some instructions could have been useful.

Check in was good although we checked bags as we arrived early and there was confusion over which bags were ours with the hotel staff. It got sorted pretty quickly though. Room left a bit to be desired. There was a section of the bathroom mirror that looked off and wouldn’t fog up when the rest of the mirror did. That was pretty creepy implying an opening behind the mirror in that spot. Provisioning for the room was pretty spotty. No coffee, TP was almost empty, and water was hot or miss on whether they would refill. The restaurant has okay food although the service was unresponsive. We had to flag a wait staff down each time we sat down to get menus etc. Breakfast buffet was also sub par. The eggs tasted like vegetable oil and the scrambled eggs looked like egg and milk soup. We never ventured to try the scrambled eggs as a result. The yogurt was good though. We quite liked the yogurt mixed with granola. Only recommendation would be to have a few more options to add to the yogurt like different kinds of granola etc. We stayed on the top floor which was a pro and a con. The view of the area was okay but heat rises and we found ourselves struggling to stay cool overnight. We left the windows open overnight and a dog in the neighbourhood that barked the night through. The other con was the elevators were in high demand, the buttons worked intermittently to select floors, and no service elevator so had to compete with cleaning staff for lift access.

We have been extremely disappointed with our stay at The Clayton Hotel. The issue of lack of central heating in our room, which was reported several times but not resolved to a satisfactory standard. The offer of a complimentary breakfast seemed a poor substitute for being cold and uncomfortable during our stay. The price we paid for our stay did not reflect the standard we would expect.
