This hotel used to be one of the very best in Dundee. Its such a shame to see how run down it has become. Needs renovation from top to bottom and training on customer services and standards for the staff.
We loved this hotel. It was so charming, loved the history, the high ceilings were delightful, as was the classic feel, accessible in all the ways-parking lot, lift. Loved the views of the city, breakfast was fantastic, AJ at the desk and Lorine in the restaurant were lovely. Only wished there were more friendly family restaurants in the immediate area.
Exceptionally kind staff (all Scots are exceptionally kind) it's true its an old building. Floor slopes a bit here and there. Do ask for the quiet side of the building if bands are playing next soor
I received a WhatsApp message from, purporting to be from the hotel, asking for card details. I did phone the hotel to check if this was real, but no one got back to me so I presume it was spam. Communication I had from Expedia was that checkin was 1400, but it's actually 1500, so expect a snippy response from the front desk staff if you turn up 'early'. Room was clean and quiet and breakfast was decent. Very good location.
The place really needs updated. My room in particular was outdated, the mattress was non existent and extremely uncomfortable, there was a gap at the bottom of the door so you could hear absolutely everything. It also caused light to shine through so had to use my pillows to try block the light and dull the sound.
Check in was easy and quick, there was lots of parking available, and the stay was fairly inexpensive. The hotel itself is quite dated and there was a bit of a musty smell. The smoke alarms are very sensitive and there are signs in the bathrooms to keep the doors closed so that steam doesnât set off the alarms. Unfortunately a fire alarm went off at 3AM.
