Lots of great features and some could use improvement on. Pros: keyless entry, great private backyard space, concrete slab, fire pit with chairs, charcoal grill, picnic table, large bathroom with separate toilet & laundry, kitchen was mostly stocked, beds comfortable & 2 mini split AC units, internet worked. Friendly hosts. Cons: that picnic table was filthy, sticky & still had [dessert] sprinkles on it from previous guests, flies were horrible as you are next to the horse stables so sitting out there wasnât enjoyable, we had 2 spoons for the 4 of us and a few forks (plenty of other utensils). The sliding barn door for the bathroom isnât on a track & thereâs quite the gap, not very private. No privacy shades on the east windows/entry door which faces the campground. The drive to the cabin is a rough, long dirt road, just be prepared for that. Donât get me started on the early morning dog howling & constant barking from the puppy mill up the road. Obviously not the owners fault but you should be aware. Finally, their cleanup expectations were a bit much for the amount of money we paid (200/night). We had to strip all the bed linens including the mattress pads & pile everything on the couch, mop & vacuum the cabin (what on earth?!?), clean the oven & glass top cooker and empty all the trash. Some of these expectations are normal but vacuum & mop?Overall, We were close to the current river, had a great outdoor space, pretty well stocked, friendly hosts & felt safe.
The property was great! The cabin waas so cute and clean in a secluded area outside Eminence There was the cutest outpost on site ran by owners so if you want a drink, ice cream, pizza, or snack you didn't have to drive into town. The owners were very nice and had quick communication. We will be back.
We had a wonderful time at the cabin! The owner's are very knowledgeable about the area and were great resources for us. The accommodations were very comfortable for us and for our horses. We are planning to return next year!!
The cabin was secluded but with help not too far away since the owners live on the property up the hill. The cabin is cute as a button seemed to have just about everything you would need to stay other than food and your personal things. Look forward to coming back.
Our stay was wonderful. The peace and tranquility of this place allows you to decompress completely. The spirit of the Lord resides here. The horses were beautiful and even the snow that fell was like God dressing the trees. We can't wait to return! The owner stayed in contact throughout our stay and the caretaker Adam was very accommodating!
Its not secluded!! the bar is right accross property, just turn around you'd see and hear it. The residents are in the same location, you will see people, horses, dogs. If you don't mind that is the spot. There's several horse stalls that house horses for events and what not. Smells of poops all day. We were out all day long so it didn't matter. Its fun if you are not there to be alone!!
We spent 2 nights at the ranch house and it was perfect for our family of 3 and 2 dogs. The hosts were so friendly and helpful. They just opened an outpost for trail riders with a bar and nice outdoor area. The house contained all the essentials and was very comfortable. We did a float on Saturday and then an early trail ride with the owner Sunday before we left. My daughter loves horses so she was excited to see all the trail riders and their horses that stoped at the outpost! The location is still very quiet and the view of the stars at night was spectacular. We would definitely stay here again.
Exactly as described. Enjoyed walks with our dog down the quiet country road to the pretty creek. Very safe being off leash. Enjoyed kayaking with Windy outfitters just a few miles away. The town is also a few miles away with gas, groceries, eating places. Everyone is so friendly in Missouri! (We are from Illinois). Recommend the Pie Barn in town too. If you enjoy cooking you might bring some sharp knives, maybe a big pot and some dish towels. The hosts provide only one dish cloth and one dish towel but were accommodating and sent extra towels the next day. Our dog enjoyed himself playing with the hostsâ dogs and meeting horses for the first time. If interested guided trail rides can be booked separately. Would enjoy coming again.
Cozy, clean, and great location. We stayed in the area to explore the many natural wonders and hiking spots. The cabin was perfect for our family of 4 (plus 2 dogs). Loved having a washer/dryer. Lots of kitchen counter space. I like the separation of the toilet from the shower/sink area. We hope to return in the summer months for swimming/floating the nearby rivers and Rocky Falls!
Old Desperado is our favorite destination in Missouri. Lisa and Scott are wonderful hosts and make certain that our stay is perfect! The cabins are comfortable, clean and well decorated. The beds are great and kitchen is well equipped. Laundry in the cabin so handy. The covered stalls for horses are spacious and well maintained. Water is close and stalls are lighted and secure.
Fire pit in the back of the cabin is wonderful and wood is provided. We sat around the fire every night, enjoying the peace and quiet.
The riding is amazing and we always ask Lisa to guide us on our trip. She has an unparalleled knowledge of the Mark Twain National Forest and shares interesting facts along the way. We used one of her trail horses this trip and Savannah was a perfect mount.
If you are looking for a peaceful Ozark mountain getaway, this is it!
Roads to the cabin were terrible. Furniture was very uncomfortable. Couldn't be outside as the bugs were terrible. They asked us to clean the cabin before we left but I had to pay $50.00 for cleaning in the fee I paid so why should I clean. Won't go back. Also I'm supposed to gey my dog deposit back if the cabin was ok. Where is my deposit!!
We love this area of MO. The cabin is off the beaten path which is super nice! And close enough to everything and everywhere we wanted to go. We don' t own horses but if you do, there are stalls right at the cabin. Peaceful and quiet. And spotty internet, which is helpful when one is escaping from work ( a perfect excuse to unplug!) Enjoyed this section in God's country!
We stayed in the Ranch house with some family and then went riding on the side by side and had a blast, the house was clean and the owners were very friendly, we will go back.
Great place to stay. While off the beaten path, close enough to town, hiking, kayaking, floating, horseback riding, and so much more. This place was fantastic. Clean, had all the amenities you would need, fire pit and patio.
It is very quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the horses near by too. Definitely recommend and we will be back. The hosts were awesome and their story is pretty neat how they developed the ranch area to be shared with other. Thank you for sharing your slice of heaven with us.
Peaceful place to stay. The Ranch House was just like the pics on the website. I loved being able to bring my own food in and cook instead of eating out all the time. I will drive back.
We had a great week at the cabin. From the moment we checked in, the hosts were helpful and communication was great. It was clean and had everything we needed for our week-long stay. We enjoyed the extra space to relax after a day floating on the river. The kitchen was well stocked with essentials for the many meals we prepared. Bonus points for having hookups on property for the family that joined us, in their RV. We look forward to returning for future trips!
Had a wonderful time staying and riding with Lisa and Scott!
The Ranch house was perfect! Very comfortable.
Rode nearly 60 miles, crossing rivers and winding through the woods...and had some time to explore the local area!
