Mathilde is an elegant classic-style ground-floor apartment with a private garden, located in the quiet and refined Porta Romana area, just a short walk from the Boboli Gardens.

The apartment is 70 sqm and includes a 100 sqm private garden with BBQ, outdoor dining table, sun umbrella and deck chairs. It accommodates up to 4 guests with 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, ideal for couples, families and longer stays.

Guests will enjoy air conditioning (3 splits), independent heating, mosquito screens, a washing machine and a safe. The living room is spacious and comfortable, with TV and direct access to the garden, and the kitchen is fully equipped.

The apartment is located in the Oltrarno district in Florence’s historic city, at just 30 m from a convenient supermarket. The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno” and this district which stretches along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence to that which is found near the Duomo. The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and in general is slightly quieter, greener and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence. Indeed many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally an artisans’ quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts today many lovely antique shops and artisans’ studios (particularly furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence’s thriving antiques trade.
Over time the Oltrarno became a rather chic area and many aristocrats chose this neighbourhood to build their villas and palaces, the largest of these being the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today this sumptuous palace houses several important museums which rank amongst the best in Florence. Other major sights the Oltrarno has to offer are the Cappella Brancacci with the fabulous frescoes of Masaccio, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breath-taking views over Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points in the city of Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture within Tuscany) together with the most famous and oldest bridge in Florence, Ponte Vecchio, home to a glittering array of jewellery shops and goldsmiths.
Extending up the hill from the Pitti Palace are the formal Boboli Gardens, an outdoor museum of garden sculpture that includes Roman antiquities as well as 16th and 17th century works. The Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market held every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those choosing an apartment in this area the Oltrarno quarter also offers a choice of grocery stores, patisserie, bakeries, gift shops and much more.

Florence city centre is a ZTL zone which means a “limited traffic zone” and therefore special rules apply to when you can enter this area. This particular apartment is in fact located within the ZTL zone so this means that if you are thinking of coming to Florence by car and wish to drive around and park, then you will need to pay special attention to the road signs, CCTV cameras and access cameras (they will show either a red/green light) in order to avoid receiving fines. Guests who need to travel within the ZTL zone by car to reach their apartment are advised to contact a private garage. Thanks to the private garage you will obtain a temporary access permit. Upon arrival at the garage, guests must specify they need access for the ZTL and the garage will then note the vehicle’s number plate and forward it to the appropriate police headquarters.

Heerlijke plek in authentieke deel van Florence

Het bed in de grootste slaapkamer is wat hard (maar wij hadden gasten die daar van hielden) en de badkamers wat krap maar voor de rest is het een geweldige plek met heerlijke tuin en van alle gemakken voorzien. Uitgebreide voorzieningen. Tuin grenst aan de Bobolituinen, Koffie en dineren om de hoek, leuke straat, geweldige wijk en je loopt in 10 minuten naar de Ponte Vecchio. De leukste restaurantjes vind je aan deze kant en het is hier veel minder druk.

Great apartment but a few niggles

Beautiful apartment, very clean and comfortable, with a fantastic garden. Perfect location, two minutes from the Boboli Garden. Niggles - Bed was hard and two twins zipped together. Not comfortable, not acceptable standard. Ño soap or other welcoming touches.

You'll enjoy the stay

Overall, the place was nice for two people and could work well for two couples. Because of the high mosquito population in the area, we didn't get to use the outdoors as much as I had hoped. But having the screened windows/doors was helpful when we wanted a little fresh air to come in. It was nice to have a washer for clothes and multiple drying racks to use outdoors. If you plan to stay for more than a few days, be sure to bring your own toiletries and cleaning supplies. Paulius was nice to bring us a few items to get us started; however, he did mention that it wasn't typical. Hopefully, they will make this more clear in the rental description moving forward. Even so, this didn't damper our experience or our stay. We would recommend this location to others. However, check about ongoing construction in the area as this prevented us from using public transportation as often as we would have liked. We finally found the detoured bus stop due to the construction the day before we left. We stayed for 10 nights. Otherwise, it takes a leisurely 20-minute walk to get to the other side of the river. Pre-arrival communication could have been better. I later learned that it was with a central resource that works with all of Halldis properties. On-site property manager (Paulius) communication was excellent. Paulius was timely and responsive to our needs, especially the first couple of days. This is when we had the most questions and discovered some things that needed repair.
