The Staff is great, but the facility doesn’t respond to a 5 stars hotel. We had our friends visited us for 2 h around the pool, we had to pay 100$ for that. Was very annoying- for our 6 days we went only 1 time to the pool and for that visit we had to pay 100$. Comparing to many hotels in EU and USA this hotel doesn’t satisfy our stay, I will not recommend it to my friends.

The property was very nice. Would definitely stay again. I only spent one night, roughly 12hrs. The 4 star rating is due to a couple things; I checked in at 1530(check-in @ 1500) but my room wasn't quite ready so I sat at the bar for a drink, then in the morning when I went to shower at 0400 the shower would not engage. Not having time to wait on facilities due to an early flight I had to take a "washcloth bath". Otherwise everything else was great.

I really wanted to enjoy the time at the hotel since it was my choice for a Malta holiday with a friend. The shuttle service to the Valletta outskirts was not always running. I waited for 35 minutes in the heat of the mid-day sun (Thu 19 June) and ended up paying a taxi 15 Euros to take me back because I had heavy shopping. The provision of towels and robes in the bathroom was also hit and miss on 3 out of our 7 nights. We phoned to chase and then had to wait for the towels to arrive before being able to take a shower.On the last night my friend asked reception (Ibrahim) to book a waterfront table at Tiki restaurant. He said he would make the booking. We arrived at 19.30, gave them our room number and they had no reservation for us. They squeezed us in but it was not a waterfront table. My friend was angry. Later my friend paid the bill and when we got back to the room, I realised we had been overcharged for the wine. My friend went back down to the restaurant. They did not know how to credit her card or cancel the previous total and charge her the correct sum. They were apologetic but it was another example of poor training and management. Without exception all the staff were friendly and polite. They were not however, all efficient or adequately trained and managed. I am more easy going than my friend but I was disappointed that the hotel did not offer the 5 star experience we expected.

The Grand Excelsior Malta

My stay was ok. The building is very old and requires a heavy duty makeover including facade beautification. We had alot of problems with the room air-conditioning. The food, especially the breakfast was not the best quality. It was mostly industrialized packaged food. The pool service also requires attention. Although the pool staff worked hard to provide good service, pool drinks took over 20 minutes to be served. By then the beers and cocktails were warm. On the other hand, the staff did their utmost best to help us when the room ac didn't work. The restaurant staff was also excellent even though they were slammed with work. The front desk staff was GREAT, especially Sephora, she made the difference.

The hotel was a little dated, which would have been OK, if the common areas had been clean. Unfortunately it was a little grubby. The pool side area was very dirty and could have done with a jet wash. In the room the bathroom as grubby with the grouting everywhere dirty and the shower cubicle held together with large lumps of silicone sealer. By far the worst aspect was the service across the hotel. Very, very poor and slow. A disapointing stay at what we thought was a better quality hotel.

Rooms are very dated. Facilities/ public bathrooms poorly maintained. Room cleanliness is poor. Housekeeping not attentive . Arrived to my room to find the shampoo / shower gel containers wet / sticky with a hair wrapped around it.. disgusting.. carpet in room never vaccumed during my stay. Will not stay again at this place. Dining service ok at breakfast.Lots of foreign workers

The hotel is well located and the fact it has access to the sea is a plus The pool service is slow and many of the staff don’t seem to know what they’re doing. Bar service was pretty poor too while offering cocktails and then not having the basic ingredients to make them. Coffee at breakfast is awful

Good location and nice staff.Good quality, choice breakfast, nice pool. Raj Kumar, concierge, was very helpful to book restaurants and arrange for a private boat ride Decor is grand and was probably very nice in its prime ,however for a 5* hotel , this hotel needs some TLC with furnitures and bathroom/ toilet, including the one near the breakfast area.

Good location to explore Malta and Valletta. Just outside the gates it’s easy to walk into Valletta. Going off to explore the rest of malta was easy too. Self parking garage for the car was nice. Breakfast buffet was good. Pool area is very nice, you can also swim in the sea. Suggestion: ask city to install a crosswalk on the main road in front of the hotel. The intersection is dangerous for pedestrians.
