Our group of 5 (and 1 pup) had a lovely stay at the Riverside. The kitchen was spacious and easy for meal preparation, the rooms were cozy and well outfitted with blankets/space heaters, and the large dining table offered ample opportunity for chatting and gaming. We had a picturesque view of the falling leaves into the river in front of the house. The property offered a welcome respite from busy lives, and we enjoyed our time very much. A great place to enjoy the beauty of fall!
We had a really nice time and the old hotel was very clean and unique and a great place to stay. Our favorite spot was on the front porch especially at night. The only complaint I had was there is no air conditioning on the main floor. We found 2 fans to put in the kitchen windows which helped out when it cooled down. But the first 2 days were extremely hot and humid and it was very hot inside while cooking.
This was a delightful stay. Not only was there a robust kitchen and adequate dining room and bedrooms and bathrooms but the ambiance had amazing charms. My daughters exclaimed "it feels like an old-fashioned bording house!". The front porch had perfect charm from early morning coffee and evening chats. The location was perfect (walkable for friendsville and the river, easy drive to Deep Creek Lake and area attractions including our favorites: Swallow Falls and Muddy Creek Falls).
I've stayed at the Riverside a number of times and it is one of my favorite places to vacation to. The rooms are well-prepared, clean, and comfortable. The common spaces are wonderful for long games and movie nights. The kitchen is well-tooled. The view to the river is so peaceful. Additionally, the Amish market just down the road meant we got fresh produce for our meals! I look forward to my next visit already!
My extended family group (ranging from my 86 YO mom to my 3 young grandchildren) of 13 people spent a week at the Riverside in June 2025. This historic structure has benefited from significant refurbishment and is modernized in all the right places without losing its original character. The location is close to other attractions such as Deep Creek Lake, Wisp, and Swallow Falls that gave us good options for day trips or excursions. Being located right on the Yough river was a big plus too as my family loved jumping in with our tubes and floating down the river to the takeout at the Friendsville Park - very fun ! Last but not least, our time at the Riverside was made even better by Brigit's level of support and service. For example, one of the window air conditioners malfunctioned on our first night and Brigit had it replaced the very next day. Anything else we needed was handled immediately. We have stayed in VRBO houses all up and down the east coast and have never witnessed the level of communication and service that Brigit provided. In summary, the house is well remodeled and clean, the area provides many things for families to do and Brigit's communication and service is absolutely wonderful.
We were attending the WVU commencement in Morgantown, WV and found this charming inn less than an hour outside of Morgantown. Plenty of room for a large extended family with 13 people. The host was very communicative and willing to help in whatever we needed. We even were able to use the 1st floor owner's apartment during our stay, which made it even more comfortable for the grandparents. It's great to find older properties like this that have been restored and revitalized by their owners. The porch was very nice, and we had a great view of the river. Highly recommended!
Beautifully restored historic inn. Bridget was wonderful, available and made sure our stay was comfortable. Loved the nearby Kendall Trail along the Youghiogheny River. Saw lots of wildlife!
Our family gathered at the Riverside for a long Thanksgiving weekend. Thoroughly enjoyed that each family group had their own space and bathrooms. Use of the owners area was a plus and provided for a second kitchen and sitting area. Yes, it was cold but the heat sources kept us warm!! Would absolutely stay here again. Brigit was a great hostess and responsive.
A small group of friends stayed here for a long weekend this fall and had a wonderful time. Although the town was sleepy this time of year, we found the people friendly plus it was a great jumping off point to many fun activities nearby. The house is a former inn so it had enough bedrooms and bathrooms to easily accommodate our group of 8. We would definitely stay here again.
Our family was hosting a wedding nearby and was looking for a place for 'out of town' guests. This rental was perfect. It was spacious, with modern amenities, provided a relaxing environment, and close proximity to the wedding venue. Guests were able to walk to a nearby trail and coffee shop and had very positive comments about their stay.
Our group had a wonderful stay at the historic Riverside. It was nice that each couple had their own bathroom, beds were very comfortable. Everything was very clean, kitchen was well stocked - had everything we needed to prepare meals. Brigit, the host, is very friendly, helpful and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again!
We had a great time at the Riverside. The house is charming, clean, and well stocked with kitchen and bathroom supplies. It was great to bring our dogs. The river and Kendall trail are in your front yardâ we enjoyed swimming, floating, and hiking. Had good meals at both friendsville public house and mountain brewing company. It is in the middle of nowhere but sometimes nowhere is the place you want to be! Shout out also to Chrisâ the friendly and helpful next door neighbor!
The purpose of our trip was to be together to commemorate the birthday of a lost member of our family. Our stay at the Riverside was a wonderful experience. We had ample room to be comfortable and found Friendsville to be very quaint and welcoming.
Beautiful place! Love that we could float the river and land back at the house. Great area to sit and watch the river and could dip your feet in if you wanted. Loved the front porch! Whole family was able to sit together. Loved the information provided about the house and brochures for other local areas of interest.
Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed our extended weekend. The location was close enough to Deep Creek for dining out and there were several locations in town to dine also. The house was clean and gave us ample room to spread out and/or gather together as we wanted. We had several generations in our party and the house was perfect for all of us. Thanks to Bridgett (sp?) she is very responsive and willing to help.
The Riverside is a great getaway for friends getting together to hang out. The kitchen makes for great group cooking, but we spend most of our time on the porch gaming with the beautiful water and trees blowing in the breeze. (And thank goodness for the room window AC units!)
Very nice, clean and updated historic building with lots of room. The location is fabulous right on the river. We had a family reunion there and everyone enjoyed it. This is our second time here.
The owner is extremely helpful and very quick to respond to you. You won't be disappointed if you choose Riverside for your family or friends.
We loved the renovated rustic and historic feel and relaxed vibe of the riverfront property. The front porch and long table are a perfect gathering place. We recharged our nature cells with long walks beside the river. The kitchen is large and had everything we needed to cook large meals.
The Beds were comfortable and well appointed. Bathrooms were clean and had plenty of towels and toiletries.
Ample parking and easy walk to a couple of cafes for breakfast or lunch.
There is some highway noise but with the air conditioners running it didnât bother our sleep.
Our host made sure we had everything we needed and was very prompt to our questions.
We hope to return next year.
It was a unique experience. Our grandchildren got a kick out of the single hallway upstairs with 6 bedrooms and 4 baths. Kitchen was well appointed. Owner left supplies that might have been forgotten ( laundry and dish detergent, trash bags, foil, baggies, etc.) available. We did use a few things but replaced them. Owner could not have been more responsive. The weather was frigid but space heaters were available to warm up nooks and crannies. Plenty of blankets and pillows!
We had a large group going to a football game 30 minutes away. The place was perfect. Plenty of rooms and bathrooms. Historical charm but very clean and had everything we needed. We didnât have a chance to spend any time in town but there is a beautiful river right out front and we tried a pub down the street that had delicious food. It as perfect and we plan to stay again!
