This is a very unique hotel that is on the top of a hill in the middle of nowhere. You have to drive a mile up a dirt road to get there. While it was really exciting and unique place to be, there were a few things that made the experience disappointing. First of all, there is absolutely nothing to do there except walk around in the forest. There is absolutely nowhere to go, so if you’re hungry the only thing you can eat is the food in the restaurant. There is a nice three ball billiard table, which we looked up how to play and is actually quite a challenge. But that is the only form of entertainment. The biggest disappointment is that there was no air-conditioning. It was quite hot even in the mountain and we were extremely uncomfortable all night long. This was in the middle of the heat wave in August, so it probably isn’t much of a problem most of the time.
Another mild disappointment is that this isn’t actually a medieval fort. It’s an old style building that is very fun to explore, but you can’t even get to the front of the building to see what it looks like from the “fort “ side. We were expecting something else.
But everything else about the property was very positive. The owner is a wonderful person who has thrown her entire soul into this, they are very proud of their restaurant, and have high-quality food at very reasonable prices. They encourage their roast suckling lamb, but I wish I had gotten steak. We were glad we came but One time was enough.
