We had the most wonderful stay in Port Austin for our winter illustrator retreat. There were 10 of us, and the house was the perfect size — comfortable, clean, and spacious enough for everyone to spread out and create.The surroundings were beautiful, with a peaceful view of the lake that felt especially magical in the winter. I can only imagine how amazing it must be in the summer!Our host was excellent and incredibly helpful when we had a small issue — everything was handled quickly and kindly.10/10 — we would absolutely stay here again.

Perfect Beach Getaway

Pictures don’t do this property justice. The location and view are amazing. Lots of little touches that made this a wonderful experience. A welcome basket, bathroom toiletries, beach toys, the owner has put a lot of work into making this a great stay. Would definitely come back again!

Highly recommend!

House is beautiful, plenty of room and comfy beds. Everything down to having enough plates and cups for several meals was available to us! The owner was very kind as well. Highly recommend! We will be back.

My daughters wedding!

Our family stayed here for my daughter's wedding. The Glen Royal venue was amazing. The house was close to venue. Joe was great to work with! Thanks for sharing your lovely house with us. We enjoyed the game room Sunday after the wedding.

50th anniversary celebration

There were 18 of us and never felt crowded! Lots of room and plenty of games to keep everyone busy. Tiki bar was great and little ones loved playing in the sand. Having 2 kitchens was a bonus. Refrig in game hut was great also!

Family retreat

This large home was perfect for our large family! Bonfire, tiki bar, game room, and spacious couch areas to share cocktails and conversations! The sleeping accommodations were plentiful, along with an extra lower level apartment for our daughter’s growing family. This was an excellent place for our 40th anniversary celebration weekend, and we hope to return again!

Great spot for large groups and kids

We had a magical week at Grindstone Lighthouse! We had 4 sets of families, ranging from ages 3-83, and everyone was comfortable and happy. The beautiful sandy beach was the highlight. Kids were able to swim, dig, and climb the nearby rocky ledges for hours of endless fun! The tiki bar and game barn were added bonuses that everyone enjoyed. We also appreciated the kids table in the dining room and the ample parking space. We’ve spent the last 5 years searching for the right vacation house for our large group, and we finally did! We hope to come back again next year!

Port Austin Family Vacation

Enjoyed our week up in Port Austin! The beach was great and we enjoyed our bonfires at night. The large shed with games was great when the rain came in and for the kids to run around in. My only comment is one of the bedrooms is in a loft and does not have a door. Would recommend to others!

Fabulous house and location for our large group. Only glitch was two stressful days: doorlock entry problems and no heat on a chilly night, several hours to reach Mgr, repairman that night, part ordered for next day, adjusted plans to accommodate repair. Group appreciated offer to stay extra night as compensation but no one was able to adjust their work schedules.Still great stay, great memories....

Pictures don’t do it justice

This place is gorgeous and spacious. The pictures don’t convey how much room there is and how picturesque the view is looking out onto the lake. They provided lots of little amenities that some places don’t provide, which was a welcome surprise. Very well maintained and would definitely rent again in the future.

Amazing Property

Amazing property with a beautiful private beach and crystal clear lake water. Not to mention the tiki bar. The only thing missing from thinking you're in the tropics is a palm tree! We had a group of 14 and there was plenty of room for everyone. The house was very clean and the property manager was quick to respond. I would definitely refer friends and family to this property.

Beautiful and Relaxing

We had a wonderful stay at this home. We had 14 adults, 2 ages 8-10, and 3 infants. We never felt crowded and had plenty of room for everyone. The house is very clean and has just about everything you need. We utilized every part of the property. The beautiful beach during the day, the fire pit and tiki bar at night, and the kids and adults had a ton of fun in the garage with all the games.

Everything you could need in Port Austin

Joseph’s place has everything you could need for a getaway in port Austin. The house is very well equipped with games and a tiki bar, a well stocked kitchen and more. The house has beautiful views out of almost every window and easy access to the nearby bar/restaurant almost directly across the street. Several people in our group were new to Port Austin and amazed at the conveniences of this location. Thanks again to Joseph for your immediate responsiveness during our trip!

Family Reunion

Great place with great amenities. Everything was clean and as promised. It did say 8 bedrooms but there is actually only 7 bedrooms and the final bed is in the loft upstairs but a minor issue for us. Love the kitchen upstairs and down. Spent our evenings with a campfire by the lake. Very relaxing.

Comfort and location can’t be beat!

We stayed here for a long weekend to celebrate a friends milestone birthday. The house gave us so much space for 10 adults and everything was great! The weather was not the best so we couldn’t enjoy the outside as much as we had hoped, but plenty of things to do in the game barn! The beds, pillows and couches were so comfortable! The house had all the things we needed to make multiple meals. We had some trouble with the grill (propane issues) and the house could have been cleaned a bit more throughly, but it didn’t ruin our time at all.

The Perfect Stay for Family and Friends!

Our stay at the Grindstone Beach House was simply perfect. It was surprising to see that the house and property were even more beautiful than the pictures impressed us! With all our friends and family, we were able to stay comfortably in the amazingly updated and very clean house. Our children enjoyed swimming, fishing, and playing all the games provided. The kids were well entertained while the parents were able to relax at the Tiki Hut! We couldn't have asked for a better place to get away. Joseph was very prompt in his responding and was super helpful whenever we had a question! We would easily stay at any of his other properties! We highly recommend this awesome beach house!

Family Vacation

The house is beautiful and the setting picture perfect. We were a group of 13 adults and 5 kids. We enjoyed having the beach in our backyard and loved having the game barn! Also enjoyed cooking out and sitting around the campfire. The house is close to a couple of cute small towns for a little shopping and of course we had to visit the Grindstone General Store for one of the largest ice cream scoops in Michigan! It was a great time for our family. FYI - the house is actually 7 bedrooms with an open loft with a bed. The loft is the access to the bathroom on this floor and the windows are beautiful but no blinds or curtains so early morning sunshine shines right in and sound from the main floor floats right up.
