First impressions are incredibly important and the first impression was not good. There was a old wooden console in the driveway along with a rusting washing machine or dryer and a pile of stuff stacked against the side of the house. The outside appearance of the house needs some work. The initial impression was so off putting to the other couple who were going to stay with us that they went and got a hotel. When you entered the house the smell of something moldy/rotting was pervasive (traced it back to the mop head in the closet), the fronts of the air conditioners were covered with brown fuzzy stuff as was the bathroom fan (I cleaned them). If you took a shower the tub would fill up and drain VERY slowly. The kitchen did not have coffee cups although the host claimed there were some. There was only a few paper towels left on the roll, only four sets of silverware, some plastic forks and no baking sheet. We normally cook when we stay in a house, but that would have been a challenge. We had a lot of trouble finding the bar of soap and we did not find any shampoo. The house is very sparsely furnished with only one bedside table, and no lights other than the ceiling lights. Many of the shades had broken slats. The house was clean, but the smell from the mop head was impossible to miss. It's clear that the owners are working on the house, but it is not yet ready for prime time.
Similar to the other stories, I never received check-in details prior to my check-in day/time. It's not clear if the owner expected my arrival that day. Long story short, I ended up having to book a hotel last minute as the property wasn't ready. Thankfully, I did receive a refund from Vrbo.
The property manager contacted me on the day of arrival (at 2:00pm) informing me that the property was unavailable. I received a confirmation the day before that everything was ready for my stay. After a testy conversation, the property manager, Dave told me both it was already occupied and then later, not occupied and in need of repair.
I contacted VRBO who provided a full refund and paid the increased prices for us to stay in a nearby hotel. DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY!
Once I informed Dave that I intended to write a 1 star review, his attitude changed. He apologized (for the first time) and offered me a free stay at another time.
We booked this property for (1) night, 5 days before we were going to New York. We live in Maryland. Instant booking, no issues. I didnât hear from the host at all. I messaged the host twice Saturday. The day I was suppose to be checking in. He then calls my cell phone and tells me that this rental is usually meant for 3-4 night stay minimum. No where in the contract/info/description said that. He told me he was going to cancel the booking because the property wasnât ready! He mustâve just seen the booking when he saw my 3 DM messages from vrbo asking for my check in info. Since we were already in route to New York, I was begging him to not cancel because he wasnât ready. so he put us in another property, 20 min from our destination. The property was nice, but I would not recommend booking from this vendor. Poor communication, was not ready, does not look at his bookings, was willing to cancel cause he was not ready! Not cool. I appreciate you accommodating us and fixing your mistake, but I will not rent from them again.
