Our group consisted of 4 adults (2 over the age of 74) and two teenagers. We chose this property due to its proximity to Lake Bowen; the size of the house, number of bedrooms and other features offered by the proprietors, as well as past positive ratings.
Positives: The house is large with plenty of bedrooms for a large group. There is a nice view of a small part of the lake from the upper deck.
Negatives: The kitchen is modern but there isnât a garbage disposal, and several cabinets are sealed from use using a padlock/chain. Cooking utensils and measuring devices are limited as is storage. For a house boasting accommodations for as many people as it does, there isn't nearly enough equipment nor storage available to prepare meals for them.
The owners must not do any pest control as there were sugar ants all over the kitchen, multiple spider webs inside and outside of the house, multiple palmetto bugs and spiders inside. The home felt dirty: mold/dirty grout in the upstairs master bath; light bulbs out in the stovetop (which we replaced at our expense); surfaces were dusty; found popcorn kernels in the living room from a prior guest. Air circulation in the downstairs bedrooms is non existent. Getting down to the dock is hazardous/steep, so is virtually unusable - especially for those physically limited.
Lastly, we hired an attorney to help us recover a REFUNDABLE pet deposit that the owners refuse to refund, suddenly claiming "damage". Do NOT rent this property!
