It had been a tough year for our family, and we were badly in need of a getaway surrounded by loved ones and the beauty of nature. The Red Door Lodge was the perfect prescription. The octagonal, log house has a feel of authenticity yet with all the modern conveniences. There was more than ample room inside for us, our adult grandkids and their awesome mom ⊠but it was the grounds with many mowed trails and a gorgeous lake that were most amazing. The cabin is close enough to âcivilizationâ for shopping and dining, but has a real âaway from it allâ feel. Just perfect. That is also a good word to describe the responsiveness of the owner, Melanie. We â reluctantly â came home in a renewed frame of mind, which is just how vacations should be.
I knew it was going to be "nice" but it turned out to be far more. Manicured walking trails thru the woods, a kitchen equipped to prep a gourmet meal for 10 or more, great-sized bedrooms, fabulous A/C, garage parking, etc. 'Already booked a stay for next year. The hosts are amazing, deserve a premier plus rating.
We had an incredible stay. The cabin is great & the outdoor area is private & peaceful. Having our own lake to float around on was fabulous. Melanie & Nancy were a pleasure to work with. We'd definitely stay again!
Beautiful log cabin with a private lake. Communication with the host was seamless. They sent us a detailed message which helped with the check-in process and our stay. The kayaks on-site were convenient. The cabin itself is spacious and there was also a ping-pong table in the basement. It's not as much in the wilderness since it's just off the road, but it's still a gorgeous property with 40 acres of private land and walking trails. Would definitely book again, but for a longer stay next time
Overall we had a great stay here. The private lake was a perfect spot for our kids to play â fish, swim, and paddle. They had fun playing ping pong and watching movies and roasting marshmallows as well.
We had a lovely week staying here with the kids. The house is spacious and well stocked in the kitchen. The outdoor Blackstone grill was a fun addition. The pond was gorgeous with clear water, lots of sunfish/pumpinseeds for the kids to catch, and little frogs. The house comes with floaties, paddleboards, and other pond toys. There are a TON of blackberries (we visited in early August) and we made a huge pie. The trails are beautiful, but very buggy - easily fixed with liberal application of bug spray. There are lots of interesting animals outside the pond - we even saw a porcupine climbing the trees! The only negative is that the water in the house has a faint smell of pond water/muck. It tastes fine, but the smell was definitely there. Anyone sensitive to this should bring some bottled water. Other than this, it was amazing and we would recommend it to anyone!
This was our first time in the north woods looking to unplug and relax and this property delivered. Although it's 1.5 miles off the highway it really feels completely secluded. The property is completely lined with woods and about the only spot you can see the road is from the kitchen window, the rest of the property faces the woods/lake and feels very secluded.
We had everything we could ever need, the lake was prefect for swimming and we loved jumping off the dock and taking the kyacks around, and viewing the stars at night. While outside you could hear the occasional car driving by but the property sits down in a bit of a bowl so you don't get a lot of sound pollution, inside the house we could not hear any cars.
My only complaint is that the kitchen was pretty dark however we did the majority of our cooking on the Blackstone outside (I'm going to have to get one now) so it didn't matter too much. And this was one of the best stocked rentals we have ever seen. Crock pot, roaster, george forman, air fryer, plenty of bowls/platers, baking sheets, etc to service a large crowd, there was even muffin tins and a rolling pin.
There were plenty of board games and DVD's when you are done with the outside (make sure to bring bug spray) The walking paths were well maintained and good for a quick walk, the kids were disappointed that we did not get to see a bear in real life.
Thanks for the great memories.
We were looking forward to a new Northwoods location and this did not disappoint. The lake house was incredible. Everything you could possibly need in a fun yet relaxing getaway was in this house. Plenty of space to spread the family out, but still be close. The grounds are amazing. So much land! The lake was the best part. We spent many days on the lake just floating, paddle boarding or kayaking. The weather was perfect. Just a great week overall. We were sad to leave, but will definitely be back!
We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend to others! Cabin was clean, property was beautiful and had everything we could possibly need. Communication with host was excellent.
My wife and seven-year-old son stayed at the cabin for an extended weekend. It was very easy to find and its location is perfectly close to everything you want to go to yet still secluded enough to feel like a real getaway. The cabin is clean and spacious with just the right blend of Rusticity and modern convenience. The fireplace works perfectly and when you stand by it, it feels as though Teddy Roosevelt will be walking through the door any minute. The property is also beautiful with walking trails and abundant wildlife. I would definitely recommend this cabin to others. I would be happy to stay here again in the future.
We were looking for a relaxing getaway and we found it! The house and property were amazing and so peaceful. The home is very well appointed for ample privacy. Very well stocked kitchen also, we had everything we needed for a great weekend.
The cabin and property were both everything we had hoped for. The pictures and description were spot on and everything turned out great. We were very happy with our stay there and would go back anytime.
We stayed with our three teenagers and enjoyed paddle boarding, kayaking and relaxing. We really liked the mowed trails and also hiked in the area. Everything you need is there.
