We expected a lake that we could swim in and kayak from, as that's how it was advertised. It was extremely disappointing. The water was a swampy bog. My husband spent a lot of time just shoveling out the muck, so there was a spot to step in just to get into our kayaks. The dock was unsafe; it was not secure, plus there were rotting boards. The railings leading down from the driveway to the house, were inadequate, and completely unstable, and unsafe. The charcoal grill was not usable in my opinion. I didn't expect to rent a house on the water, and have to drive 30 minutes to find a place to swim and kayak. This house was certainly not worth the money we paid!!
Less than it was hyped to be! The reviews that gave it eight 8 1/2 nine points out of 10 clearly fraudulent. MANY Statments100% untrue like "lots of comfortable seating". there was not one comfortable seat inteh whole palce except a plastic Adirondac chair on the proch. the couch was terrible. the only other inside seating were dining high bar stool type chairs not comfortable for many seniors. to be fair there is a clear attempt to hag stylish clean place but it is not quite there. yet. BBQ utelsils were excellent but the bbq itself is charcoal was a very rusty grate and no charcoal, fluid or lighter. the upstairs is quite nice as it the bathroom. the downstairs bedroom is OK. Screen porch with tears letting in bugs. pots and pans are terrible. i got poison ivy while I was there it's right in front of the parking mixed in with the viy hedge. the first three stape from the driveway has not hand rail and a retaining board that is easy to trip on for us in our 70's. the rest of the stairs are well lit.. Great shower. AC works well butmust leave on while away if a hot day. the area is great with lots to see and do. go to the red 36 restaurant really great seafood and view from the deck. the lake is not swampy. the cove you are on has some lily pads but the water is clean. and clear for 6 feet. No boats seen on the lake the dock is too small for a boat and you cannot get out of the lake to the river.
I had a very restful stay here, enjoyed the calming view of the lake and watching the sunset from the porch. I heard at least one frog calling at night, and enjoyed the birdsong. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with plenty of dishes, pots and pans. I didn't use the upstairs level, but it was a great set up with bunk beds on one side and also a bed on the opposite side.
We stayed in July to kayak on the water. We brought our own kayaks. Clean, clear water with many waterlilies. Rental property was exactly as described. Had a great stay. Communication with owners was excellent.
We ended up not staying at the property. My wife and I had our children with us and it just did not meet the expectations of the photos. We were severly disappointed and felt that this property was severly overpriced for what it offered. The bathroom looks like it was recently remodeled but very little else has been done to the property. The window ACs are pretty ancient and the house is very dated with not a lot going on. If you are hoping for the waterfront that this listing promises you will be disappointed as it is a swamp. The parking space does not fit more than a compact car and the neighbors are right on you. I will say that if you and your fishing buddies are looking for a place to lay your head it would be ideal and close to great fishing. We did not pursue a refund and the owners did not offer. We ended up just taking the hefty hit and getting a hotel to avoid staying here.
It was a great stay. Good space. A great place to come back to after exploring Connecticut for a few days. The pond access and kayaks were a great bonus
This is a nice place to stay that is not too far from home, but far enough for it to feel like youâre on a weekend getaway. Beautiful location that has access to calm and relaxing weekend or youâre up for some more active weekend getaway like fishing, swimming and kayaking
This is a lovely property in a fantastic position and just what we needed for a weekend break from New York. The weather meant we didnât really get a chance to use the outdoor areas as much as weâd hoped but we had everything we needed indoors. Michael responded really quickly to any questions we had and check-in and check-out were very easy. Weâd highly recommend this cottage
Great house for a little vacation. Beautiful view although it rained the whole trip we still enjoyed sitting in the porch. Some dishes was still dirty in the cupboard but didnât really bother us. Overall good
It was perfect for a short weekend stay with my sisters. Not too far from cute towns and amenities. Beautiful water to look at. Easy to check in and to communicate with owners.
We rented the cottage property because it was close to family. Both the kitchen and bathroom has been update- we did not do any cooking during our stay so canât comment on that area. But we really appreciate the instant hot water in the bathroom. We stayed in the upstairs bedroom which was comfy with lots of closet space and room.
We were attending a relatives wedding in Canterbury CT and found this property ideally located for this event.
The property is a very cute cottage overlooking a peaceful body of water with resplendent fall colors at this time of the the year (Mid October).
We would stay again. The lake was clean and nice for kayaking and sitting and relaxing. Screen-in porch was great!!! No bugs, and very nice view of the lake. Couldn't ask for a more tranquil and relaxing setting. House was clean and the bathroom shower was amazing! 10/10!
Great weekend on the lake. Cottage is very cosy, it's clean and well maintained, easy to get to from the highway. Kayaks were great and there are no bigger boats on the lake so it was safe for the kids to kayak together too. We would stay again
The best part was no noisy neighbors. The landscaping
and area was very nice ! The home is clean, we had just
anything necessary to make ourselves at home and
enjoy ! There are steps so it wouldn't suit some people.
I loved the open kitchen feel and we didn't turn on the
tv even once ! Very simple, nice rental !!! Also, very
nice lake views from big sliding doors !!
While we picked probably the hottest, most humid week of the summer to come, this spot was a fantastic little getaway. It was just too humid to truly get out on the kayaks or two spend too much time on the porch, but the view was great every morning and every night. We had our dogs with us and they settled in nicely. The surrounding area is quiet and safe. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. Yes, you will see the occasional ant, but there were traps laid and they were minimal. The A/C ran the entire time we were there and kept things nice and cool for us. We didnât use (or need) the downstairs bedroom - though there did seem to be some sort of sour smell to that room. Could use a candle or something. Unfortunately the Keurig seemed to be on the fritz as it leaked when we tried to use it the first morning. Owners were more than willing to send another one, but we spent most of the week in day trips so it was a non issue. Make sure to bring some basics (paper towels, napkins, salt, pepper, butter, cooking oil, etc). The kitchen is small and basic. Has everything you need in terms of pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc. All in all - a solid location - very comfortable bed. Nice property.
