Such a pleasant stay

I wanted some peace from the bustle of Johannesburg for one night and found this guest lodge to be perfect and I felt very safe. A large room with a comfortable bed plus a big bathroom. The bathroom was modern and well appointed with a spacious bath and separate shower. The property was quiet, even though it was full of guests, and the breakfast generous.

Great stopover

We have used Melrose Place on a few stopovers and have never been let down. Transport was available from the OR Tambo Airport. Safe and secure. Convenient for shops and excellent places to eat. We have stayed at Melrose in our previous transit’s through Johannesburg From the pick up at the airport to our departure we were well looked after. Lovely clean an spacious rooms. Invigorating swimming pool. Tasty breakfasts with plenty of coffee on tap

Quiet retreat in Melrose

We stayed in a ground-floor flat/room. Own entrance Immaculate and in good condition. Fridge, kettle to make your own brew, comfortable bed and good wifi. Very comprehensive breakfast. Even in April, my wife ventured into the pool for a refreshing swim. Plenty of places to eat within safe walking distance. Lovely and quiet. Certainly return when we visit friends again

an oasis of calm

I stay here whenever I visit Joburg - its a lovely setting with a central swimming pool and rooms scattered around - the staff are very friendly as is the wonderful owner Sue. The food is excellent and the honour bar brings out the best in guests! - very well located from the business district but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of this vibrant city to make you feel you are in a country retreat

I did not have a car and I had to use an Uber to get to a restaurant so no in-house dining. I was offered a Mr Delivery menu but did not wish to eat in my room or in the breakfast area. The bedroom was very comfortable but my bathroom not great. Breakfast was superb except for the sharing of the farm style tables

Hidden Gem

This is a wonderful little hotel tucked away in a suburb of Johannesburg. At first glance it may seem to be in the middle of nowhere, but it is actually quite convenient. Try Moyo African restaurant nearby and the Italian restaurant a block away. Although they offer a shuttle service, the best and cheapest way to go is by using Uber. Download the app before you leave the U.S., and you will save almost half.

We Loved It!!!

it was spectacular, all around.... not one negative things to say. the owner was so sweet, Peter the guard was so helpful and everyone was so helpful and calmed any anxiety I had. I was initially very concerned about picking places that would treat Black American right, I made an absolutely fantastic choice and we will be back!!!

Excellent Guest House if you are visiting Joburg!

This place was nice and surrounded by a beautiful garden. It is located in conscientious place. Sue and her entire staff are extremely nice and accommodating. And make it a point to personally talk to you. Sue even called in the day we left to apologize for not being there in person to wish us safe travels back home.

Very comfortable room but noisy next to busy road and with a lot of stairs. Very poor tv channel selection. Breakfast was basic at best. You can do a lot better for the price they charge.

Nice hotel, friendly staff

Good hotel for a night or two. The breakfast was very tasty and the staff were super friendly. They allowed me to check in early which was very nice of them. The room was big and clean. The only negative is they didn't have an aircon in the room. However there was a stand fan. The location is not so great either. It's in a residential area so you will need to take a taxi to go anywhere. Taxi from the airport to the hotel cost about 500 rand.
