Fantastic time at The Whaler

Third trip to Hawaii and will definitely be back. the unit was nice and suited us just fine. Constructive thoughts - room could use a safe, a dust pan, and some shear curtains for better privacy, all very minor. Underground parking was awesome, pool and pool staff very good. All in all pleasant experience.

WiFi Doesn’t Work

Nice view and property. Pool is very small and crowded for the size of the complex. They did not have a record at the gate or the front desk of my prepaid reservation so check in was not easy. WiFi did not work during my entire stay. I asked management company Sullivan and the front desk for help. I needed to do some work while I was there and needed WiFi so that was important to me. Sullivan didn’t help at all but the front desk sent someone up. They tried but couldn’t fix it.

Dirty and dingy

The room was dirty and dingy. Size of bed was not accurate. Dishes and pots and pans were too dirty to use which defeated the purpose of having kitchen space. No beach accessories provided in room (chairs, boards, umbrellas, etc.). Additionally the water pressure was awful and were very slow to drain. Had to take short showers otherwise the water started collecting and rising at the bottom of the tub

Perfect stay!

The rental was clean and well appointed. The Whaler is perfectly situated with a beautiful beach and next door to shops and dining. We last stayed here about 10 years ago and we were pleasantly surprised with the many updates to the property. Definitely 5 stars!!!

The bathroom was not very clean, mold around the overflow of the bathtub.

I have stayed in other units at the Whaler and the rooms may have been a tad dated but they were clean. This room was not cleaned properly, mold was around the rim of the toilet, around the overflow in the bathtub, and around the ceiling in the bathroom. I personally will not rent from this company again.

Gets the job done

The whaler is a very intriguing hotel. It has all the big ticket items you’d want: overlooking the ocean, a wonderful pool, access to laundry, and is a conveniently short walk from anything you’d want. However, it’s the little things that arise once you get there. For starters when we arrived and approached the front desk to check in we were greeted by an unfriendly receptionist who could not find our reservation. Although we booked and paid for our honeymoon vacation over four months ago, they could not find us in their system and even asked if we were sure we were at the right hotel. He begrudgingly took our IDs and continued to look through the system until he found it. We just got off the plane and had to wait for half an hour while this man was rudely welcoming us. Once he finally found it, he didn’t even offer an apology. Once we got to the room we found it in need of a sweeping, as well as for the counters to be wiped down. My husband did the cleaning while I unpacked and despite the minor dirtiness we both really did enjoy the room. It had a wonderful view, and plenty of space. But it was clear this room hadn’t been renovated in quite some time as the television was far too old and the Wi-Fi continued to break out. The rest of our stay at the Whaler really was wonderful though, as the amenities were perfect for us, the hotel was right on the beach, and the rest of our interactions with staff were very pleasant. Nate in particular was especially friendly, it’s a shame that our first impression was so poor from Ron’s lack of customer service skills.

Great location - Outdated Condo + Lots of noise

It really is like others described. The price is correct for the area. But do not expect to have quiet time at the balcony. The noise is really irritating. I actually though to leave and book something else, but it was too late. On the positive side, the location is unbeatable . It is in the hearth of West kananapali and close to everything . You will be paying for the location, not for the condo itself. It did have everything you need.

Great location

The studio was clean and had everything we needed. Overall, it was great and we had a great time. The only complaint was the sofa bed. It broke down on us and while they fixed it, it was a pain to pull out and put back in every time. I think it is time for a new one. However, the view, location and everything else was great.

Great value

This was one of the least expensive rentals we found at The Whaler, which made perfect sense. The mattress felt like a roll-away, pillows so thin you needed to fold them over (which they did without resistance), the furniture unsupportive with an impossible-to-stain polyester fabric, the dishwasher cacophonous, and all kitchen utensils as cheap as can be found. Also note that this spot is on the southern side of the South building, so you get to hear the A/C cooling tower pumps and service trucks backing up. If you're planning to be anywhere but inside while visiting Maui, this place is a bargain!

Never again!

We needed a condo for a few days while we transition from two condos in the same building for our long staying. I paid for early checking because we had to live food from fridge to fridge and the day we were moving our reservation didn’t even show on The whaler’s system, so we had to start calling the condo manager several times, then they approved but not with the early checking and when they approved it the unit wasn’t ready. I had confirmed by Vrbo messages several times before. They refunded the early checking fee at least. Anyway, I should have read and pay attention to the previous reviews. The condo wasn’t clean, the bathroom smelled terrible, it was disgusting.

Just what we were looking for; great view, located on the perfect beach and within walking distance of Whaler’s Village. There were some stains on the carpets, that had probably been there for awhile, but otherwise in great condition.

Great location. Close to beach shops and restaurants. Good snorkeling and swimming. The pool and hot tub are nice as well. Zero issues with the accommodation. Sunset views from the lanai are beautiful.

Very disappointing!

Our one week stay in this unit was very disappointing, due to a myriad of mechanical issues and constant noise from the compressors at the next door restaurant complex. Mechanical issues included a coffee maker that didn't work, patio doors that would barely open and shut due to dirty and rusty runners, patio curtains that wouldn't open and close properly, garbage disposal with something caught in it, making it unusable, filter from the spray arm in the kitchen sink that wouldn't stay in place, making it unusable, toilet flushing problems that required up to three flushes to get everything down with us holding the flush handle down the entire time, very old flooring, which needs total replacement or at least a good cleaning, lack of any hand towel bars in the bathroom. We called the property management firm the day we arrived about the coffee maker and patio doors and they sent over a new coffee maker and a maintenance man to fix the patio doors, but, whatever he did there was no improvement. We have stayed at another unit at this resort and have been very satisfied with that. It has been newly renovated and is on the other side of Tower Two and we made the mistake of assuming that this unit would be comparable. It is probably the worst experience we've had in our travels. I would not rent this Unit again at any price. I really feel that a consumer should be made aware of the noise problem, along with the very dated features.

The Whaler is a great property. Very clean and well run. Love the location on Kaanapali beach.

The unit was clean. The view from the lanai was beautiful. We have stayed in other units at the Whaler that were much more updated. I would recommend the owners do some more upgrades to stay in line with the higher standards of the other units.

Overall met our needs

This is our 2nd time staying at Aston Whaler. Same Tower but different unit. The overall experience at Aston Whaler was just as great as the 1rst time. Friendly and helpful staff. Love the pool and hot tub especially since its right at the beach side. The grounds kept clean and just steps away from the beach and restaurants. Keeping in mind that we spent most of our time outside...The unit itself served its purpose. We needed a place to sleep, clean up and enjoy an ocean view from a balcony. Pros - The kitchen came with all needed to cook and clean the dishes. The appliances worked without a hitch. Included a coffee maker that needs paper filters although sadly none were provided. Bathroom was clean and included TP, Towels and wash cloths. King size bed, tv w/basic channels, items found in the storage room like Beach Chairs, Goggles/Snorkels, etc. Has A/C however the digital thermostat had a hard time staying at what you set it for. Possibly pre programmed? Cons - As a previous review said, the Industrial Sized AC Units for the Whalers Village was next door. It was quiet enough to still enjoy sitting on the patio to have breakfast or have drinks, but keeping the sliding door open at night to hear the waves was impossible and just a bit to loud to sleep as well. The décor could use an upgrade. Unsure if carpet ever been replaced? It looked to have been vacuumed good but did have old stains showing throughout. The bed was spacious but a bit hard for our tastes. Few of the mornings we woke up with achy backs.

Tool little umbrellas at the pool. Needs more shade and larger pool.
