To the north, the Yorkshire Dales tempt with quiet valleys and dramatic climbs, including the iconic route to High Cup Nick (10 miles), where the U-shaped glacial valley cuts deep into the landscape. The Lake District’s fells, 25 miles away, add yet more variety. After a day on the hills, enjoy a relaxed evening in nearby Brough (2 miles) or Appleby-in-Westmorland (9.5 miles), perfect for hearty food and quiet charm.
