Very antique hotel. Facilities are old. It is a part of grammar school dormitory built in the middle of last century.

Good Central Accommodation

Overall a nice place to stay in the heart of Launceston. The images of the grand old hotel on Hotels.com is of the main reception house only, most of the of the rooms are in 80/90s motel style buildings (and I picked one of the ‘deluxe’ room so was a little disappointed with that. The room was comfy however just a bit dated and basic like lighting is hospital white, there’s a microwave and things like pot noodles you can buy but no cutlery or plates or anything, there’s a bath but no bath gel etc a balcony but no chair or table … just a general lack of effort. 10am checkout on the weekend is very poor. Staff are very friendly and the pub attached is nice. I didn’t drive but seems to be plenty of parking.

We stayed at the Colonial three different times over a period of three weeks. We stayed in three different rooms. The beds and bathrooms seemed very good. The chairs and furniture were a little odd and could use some updating. It was great to have access to a laundry. The location in Launceston was perfect for us - easy walking to enjoy the town. We would stay at the Colonial again.

Only stayed for one night on our travels but it was lovely. The bed was cozy, the room clean, the receptionist was wonderful and polite. The car parks were a little bit small for travellers with luggage was our only issue. Overall though it was lovely

This property is just a nice quaint hotel perfect for a short stay. Easy walk to town and close to cafes and shopping.

I highly recommend the restaurant (3 Steps on George). The food was very good and the staff were even better. The room was clean and comfortable but just a touch ‘tired’. Also didn’t really like the lack of a lift meaning luggage up and down stairs. Overall though it was a good enough place to stay.

Charming Hotel

The hotel and staff were nice and the room was clean. I don’t think there was a lift/elevator on the property- if there was, I could not find it. So that was my only issue- I had a heavy bag I had to haul it up and down 2 flights of stairs.

This was a convenient stopover for 2 nights. There was a mix up in the recommended restaurant and our meals were very late coming out. I thought an offer of a free drink would have been nice in these circumstances.
