We really enjoyed the farm house. The house itself brought us to a place back in time and fit the surroundings beautifully. Ian is simply a good guy and shared his family stories with my family including his grandparents and his experience as a kid growing up there. Memories will include the tomatoes from the farm and the magnificent stars.
This old farmhouse rocks! So much charm, character and space. We enjoyed campfires in the evening, beautiful sunsets, walks on the acreage. The outdoor shower was the best (don't let one full BR discourage you) The major thing missing was the internet (we were there for a month, would have liked to stream a movie or two, check accts, etc.). Other than that one thing, the house, yard, the access to Little Compton Briggs Beach was perfect. Ian was a GREAT HOST!
This historic property oozes charm. All the mechanicals worked perfectly, i.e., plumbing, hot water (plentiful); showers ( indoor and outdoor); electrical; and air conditioning. Although we had some of the hottest temps of the year, the AC on both the 1st and 2nd floors was outstanding! The host was incredibly quick to respond and rescued us within minutes when we locked ourselves out.The home was spotless and retains the character one might wish for in a 1770s home while providing the conveniences of a modernized structure. The porch and back yard were enjoyable. Access to a private beach was frosting on the cake! The beds and linens were comfortable and the rooms were tastefully arranged and decorated. This is Little Compton personified! We look forward to returning next summer
The house is spacious and charming! There are a lot of original details that feel very welcoming and cozy and itâs well appointed for groups to stay at. The hosts thought of everything you may have forgotten and had it available for use. We throughly enjoyed the back patio and loved having our own space to relax- itâs on a main road but you wouldnât guess as itâs fairly quiet. As a group we already discussed coming back and reserving this same property!
Felt like we were transported to another time. A time when life was simpler. The drive to the property was peaceful. Thank you for sharing your beautiful property with us. Truly a relaxing getaway.
This home is comfortable. The bedrooms are clean.
For one of our days, we drove to the private beach and enjoyed looking for shells and creating sand castles.
It was a joy to make such good memories together as a family.
We enjoyed the old world charm of this country home- quiet, convenient to beaches, farm stand and occasional cafes. The host was available and quick to respond to questions or requests for information about the area.
The stay at this property was wonderful! The home was clean, comfortable, and cozy, and the host was very friendly and helpful and provided all of the necessities for our stay. In addition, the location was convenient to many area attractions.
If youâre looking for a vintage bougie house for your trip to Newport, this isnât it. Also, if you donât love quirky old homes (and I mean old, where the ceiling in the primary bedroom is barely 6 ft and the stairways are tiny and steep) then keep looking. But if you want to stay in the country, and walk right next door for fresh produce and local goodies - as well as coffee and pastries - then youâre in the right place.
We visited in the summer and there were window AC units in each bedroom except the back bedroom downstairs. That room was cooled with the living room AC unit, but could get muggy if you wanted the door closed for privacy. Also, window units are just noisy by nature and donât pull out humidity. We also had to use towels stuffed around the units to keep bugs from coming in (owner promptly sent over bug spray and tape when we told him of the issue).
About a 45 minute drive to Newport, but fairly scenic. 30 minutes to a full size grocery store, but the farm stand next door has staples and the general store in Little Compton is pretty well stocked. Make sure to visit Tiverton.
We agreed with a former reviewer that the outdoor shower was preferable to the indoor one (an old clawfoot tub with a shower curtain that billows in when showering).
We unfortunately couldnât visit the private beach due to overgrowth of foliage on road, but owner said we could have parked and walked in.
Overall a nice stay, but I do think the listing needs to be updated.
The house and its furnishings are so lovely, well-kept, and comfortable. We appreciated the time machine trip to the 18th century! Like Pride and Prejudice! The dining room was just the right size. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a giant lobster pot! The beds were perfect. We had a beautiful fire pit fire the last night of our stay. The Farm Market next door had wonderful produce. When we needed help (twice), we got a response fast, sometimes instantly.
I'm so looking forward to next time we stay!
There were 5 of us on the trip to see the Newport Mansions. My mom, myself, my 2 daughters and my daughter's boyfriend. The house was absolutely adorable. Plenty of space to separate from each other if needed. The fresh flowers were beautiful. We hope to stay again soon. Thank you for sharing your beautiful Farm house.
My husband, our good friends, and I spent a beautiful Fall weekend in Rhode Island. This farmhouse is charming, with lots of space, and has lovely grounds. The property manager was helpful and responsive during the booking process. When we arrived our first evening, lights were left on for us and we were greeted with a personalized letter of welcome containing all information we needed for our stay. There were even fresh flowers on the kitchen table.
The house was exactly what we wanted and the hosts were wonderful. Highly recommend.
Great Place for a Family to have a mini family(8 or less) reunion.
Has a yard for kids to play in. Can sleep 8 people- 2 bedrooms on the first floor and two on the second floor. Has a full kitchen, dining room and living room. WiFi. Has off street parking. Beautiful country area. Has a private beach.
This historic farmhouse was perfect for our needs. While rustic and from a prior century, we adapted nicely. We were able to brings our two dogs and the property owners could not have been better to work with. Using this as a base, we were able to explore Little Compton from top to bottom.
Such a treat to stay in a charming historic farmhouse! We ate all our meals in the peaceful backyard, surrounded by trees and views of the adjoining farm. The location canât be beat, since itâs a short drive from so many good things: beaches, farm stands, the village center of Little Compton (with a great little coffee shop: The Art Cafe), nature preserves, and Tiverton Four Corners.
The house itself had everything we needed: comfy bed, plenty of blankets and towels, an extremely cozy couch, really nice pots and pans in the kitchen, and a newer gas stove thatâs nicer than our stove at home! We were able to buy simple groceries at the local farm stands (Youngâs and Wishing Stone), and thereâs a friendly wine store right nearby. It all made for a delightful and relaxing weekend. Thank you for sharing your farmhouse with us!
Be prepared for an old house - narrow staircase, uneven floors, one full bath downstairs and half bath upstairs serving two bedrooms, dark interior, not too many places to plug in electronics, reading lamps fairly dim. But a lovely house with a great location, good internet service and an easy checkin process. We would come back in a flash. Also some very good restaurants and shops in the nearby neighborhood.
A 17th century cottage near farmstands & greenhouses
This cottage is the original building from 1770 at Walkerâs Farm. Itâs cozy. Across the street is Young Family Farm with their farmstand. About a block away is Peckhamâs which is the stateâs most beloved houseplant and garden plant seller. They are open year round. The big public beach is about a 12 minute drive or you can go to the ownerâs private river beach around the corner. The house is old and not fancy. But itâs sweet and the location is fantastic.
