Our family of 6 enjoyed a great stay at this property. It was a perfect location for us to take day trips to NYC and Philadelphia. We felt very safe walking in the neighborhood, and even to the grocery store and nearby train station. The owner was very communicative and though he was on property in the basement during our stay, we had sufficient privacy and felt right at home. We enjoyed the space this property afforded us. The only minor things that could be addressed are lack of night stands in the bedrooms and lack of lamps/lighting in the living room and back sitting room where the washer and dryer are located. We loved our time here and would book again!
Location is exactly what I needed. The house was one away from Main Street. Everything very accessible. For being on Rosedale Ave, it was pretty quiet. Home was adorable with three nice bedrooms each with a window A/C unit which was needed. We had an emergency with the folks I was visiting having their home A/C system fail during this 100 degree heat wave. Their home was 95 degrees and no one or thing could stay there. They ended up staying with me while the system was repaired and everyone was comfortable. I hope to stay here again.
The house was kept up nice, however, there were no end tables or lamps in any of the rooms (living room or bedrooms) so we only had the bright overhead ceiling lights to use in all the rooms. I actually had to purchase a night light so I could see in the dark of night upstairs. The backyard was not mowed but once on the day we were leaving (we stayed 5 nights) and the grass was too long to enjoy the outside furniture in the yard. Also, the patio chair cushions had little red biting ants all over them so we couldnât sit outside on the chairs. The owner gave me the wrong codes to the door locks and when we arrived we couldnât get in the house for quite a while because he wouldnât text or call us back when we contacted him for the correct codes. We actually had to call the VRBO official phone number to have them try to get a hold of him because he wasnât responding to our texts or numerous phone calls to him. It started out to be a bit of a nightmare. It was a nice central location and close to stores and restaurants within walking distance, so that was nice.
This house is situated in the heart of Madison, a great town to explore - abundant restaurants, many walking trails and green recreational spaces, lots to do! The house is older, as many in the neighborhood are. The beds were comfortable and the amenities there, but spartan. (Only overhead lighting in bedrooms, no bedside tables or any kind of place to put a phone to charge, or be used as an alarm. No seating in the multiple living area except for a single sofa in each. Itâs hard to have a conversation with family when youâre only seated in a line. ) Kitchen was adequately stocked. Though my family really enjoyed the location and proximity to everything we needed in town, the general cleanliness of the house was not good. It reminded me of our old college apartments - bathroom kinda clean but corners of the room and windowsills and floors dusty, dead insects, etc. everything youâd expect in spring when you open up a house again. It desperately needs a deep once-over by a real cleaning crew. We actually brought over a borrowed vacuum to use on the main living area floors to pickup the dust and grit that seemed long-standing. If the house were to be updated with some simple furniture additions and a deep cleaning, I would not hesitate to stay againâŠ..based primarily on location. If it remains as is, I would not make another enervation here.
Pros - Great communication, central location in Madison.
Cons - The house is run down, wasn't clean. Kitchen cupboards were literally dirty. Kitchen is very poorly stocked, not even paper towels.
The House itself is old, unmaintained, and poorly decorated, lacking furniture and an inviting feeling.
Lastly, if you are a light sleeper, you can hear the road and the shades in bedroom windows don't block light from coming in.
First I want to shout out the amazing host Carmen. The communication I had with him was amazing throughout the whole trip. We had an emergency situation the happened the morning of our check out and he went above and beyond to help us. I am so grateful for that!Proâs:- Beautiful and large home. There was plenty of space for our party of 5. There are three large bedrooms, two living room spaces, and a big kitchen. - It is within walking distance of downtown Madison and the Madison Train station. We took so many walks downtown during our week trip.- Free water in the fridge was wonderful!- Honestly just such a beautiful historical family home - We were in awe!Negatives:** Prefacing that our group was there for a week - these may not be issues for just a few days. **- There never seemed to be enough bath towels for the 5 of us haha. There werenât any wash clothes and I could only find one hand towel. We were so thankful for the washer and dryer in the home to do towels. - There is a lack of tables. Thereâs no side tables in the bedrooms or living rooms. Minor annoying issue. That also means there arenât any lamps in the bedrooms. - The listing states that there is central air - but itâs actually air conditioning units he installs in May. This was only an issue because we had a really hot day. I was able to talk to Carmen and he helped create a plan to cool down the house and it worked really well! (Thank you so much Carmen!!)8.5/10 would recommend!
Host was so friendly and welcoming! My friends and I enjoyed talking with him and learning about his Italian family history; it was very interesting. The home is clean and has lots of space. room.Wenjoyed the lowimultiplec
Lots of room downstairs for gathering, but lighting was barely adequate. Owner was very accommodating and communicative. Needs good cleaning around window sills and under beds.
We loved our stay at Carmen's place in Madison! The house itself was exactly what we needed and captured the charm of traditional Northeastern homes. The home was very central to everything the town of Madison has to offer (restaurants, bars, BAGELS!) and is within walking distance to the train station. Carmen was more than accommodating, making sure we were well taken care of and even gifted us with a bottle of wine from his vineyard! 10/10 would definitely stay here again.
We were in for a graduation party and needed a place to sleep, this fit the bill perfectly. Clean and very accommodating owner. Would definitely recommend this home for anyone traveling in this area.
This was a very pleasant, short stay with basic amenities. Everything works well and the only issue was that there was not enough kitchen appliances. The property manager is very quick to respond and said that he will get more appliances next time. Price was excellent too
