The hotel has a hype but little things matter. We arrived quite late after a long drive and at 11pm you just want to hit the sack. Went to hand coats on the rail, it fell off. The door handle broke during the night. Also do not be fooled by the images. They do not have a swimming pool. They do however, have extravagant spa facilities. I had pre paid for the room but the hotel billed me for the room again when they explained what they were taking my card details for was meant to be a £50 safety deposit. I called and the manager was meant to call back, but never has. It is in a good location. There are restaurants and shops on your door step. Breakfast at the location is £25 a head but it is cheaper to book it when booking the room. It equated to £16 a head. They do have parking right opposite the hotel which is convenient. There are what appears to be free sopts outside the hotel which are reserved for the lambos and rolls royces of the world. I fell fractionally outside of this category. We asked for double but it was two singles joined togethered. The room was quite fancy. Stains on the sofas. They also charge a fee for staying in Manchester. I cant recall what the amount was as it was added to double charge for the room. The staff at reception were lovely and very helpful. It is a great location. It looks extravagant but the little things matter too when you pay so much for your stay.

Hotel is absolutely fine but little details let it down and certainly no longer befitting of a 5*. Pillows are all soft and no option to change. No usable fridge in the room, it’s all mini bar and if you remove items you get charged instantly. Bathrobes were pretty average and hard as nails to touch. Bedroom carpets were dirty as was the hallway. The aircon even on low is so noisy you have to turn it off and know you’re going to then be hot in about an hour. On the plus side, the lady that does late night room service is an absolute delight and so accommodating and personable.

Only reason I didn’t give a 5 for everything is due to me explaining I would arrive early and was charged an extra £15 on top of the usual parking from 2pm! 24 hours should be when you arrive to when you leave and we were within the 24 hours! Should have been explained and this is the first time this happened as arrived around 11 am a few weeks back and wasn’t charged.

Pros: Executive room was spacious and very clean. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The aircon worked well on a hot day. The bed was huge and comfortable. Parking available opposite the hotel. Cons: The shower pressure was poor on the rain shower. Parking spaces are very tight which meant as a heavily pregnant woman it was a bit of a challenge finding a space I had a chance of being able to open my door wide enough to get out. Also the fact that you spend £28 for parking as a hotel guest but if you were a restaurant guess spending £50 or more parking was free was a bit galling. Some staff were excellent, some seemed a bit clueless and allowed rude abrasive guests to railroad over patiently waiting guests (but this my just be my perception).

The Lowry does not maintain the standards of a 5*hotel. Attention to detail expected in such an establishment was clearly lacking. It is this attention to detail that makes the difference between a 4 or 5* hotel. For example: Meagre pillows, duvet cover on inside out, broken light switch, shower gel and hand wash dispensers in wrong place. Meagre tea and coffee in room, plastic milk sachets, and no complimentary vanity accessories (cotton wool, etc). No doorman, no concierge, sparse and unwelcoming lobby and unhelpful reception staff regarding taxis. Breakfast offering reasonable however, bacon undercooked, Eggs Royale inedible- smoked salmon heated under grill and hollandaise congealed.
