Donât be fooled. It looks beautiful in pictures, but they donât give you all the information. Behind the property the dock is basically unusable. There is a large amount of seaweed in the cove that have a rotten egg smell that is overwhelming. They say it is seasonal, but itâs a lie. We talked to a couple full time residents that live in the same cove and they said it never clears up and the smell is always there. We stayed there for a full week and it never cleared up. There is also a LARGE amount of garbage floating in the cove and around the house and on the boat ramp. You are basically surrounded by sewage. We couldnât even fish off the dock because all you hook is seaweed or garbage. We couldnât use the ramp to put our jetskis or kayak in because of all the seaweed and garbage. It smells so bad we were afraid to even get the water on our skin. Listing it as having a usable dock for fishing and sports is a lie! Beware, the lower level by the pool table and pool is extremely slippery. My kids slipped and fell multiple times just walking! You will need bug spray for early morning and evenings, but thatâs just Florida. The living area was nice though. It was clean, large supply of towels, beach towels. Not a bad view from inside, but once you go out onto the top porch you are slapped in the face with the smell. They donât say anything about the smell or seaweed in original listing. The only thing Iâd suggest about the inside is a newer oven. Current one takes forever to heat
My family of four spent a day packing, then a day traveling with a 27 foot catamaran and Waverunner only to arrive to a property infested with termites. We arrived late on check-in day and saw what we thought were moths flying around the light above dining room table. The next morning we woke up to find a pile of wings on the dining room table along with a few small (what we thought were) bugs. It appeared that the live bugs were gone so we agreed weâd keep an eye out for more issues but didnât know what wings on the table meant (i.e. termites). The next day when we returned to the property after boating I prepared dinner in the kitchen as the sun went down and we went to sit on the porch. Then as it got dark outside, we went into the property to find termites swarming all the light fixtures in the house as well as crawling all over the paper towels and our stuff in the kitchen, including the kitchen table, on the stove and dinner plates. Anytime we turned lights on they swarmed the lights. We messaged the property and didnât hear anything until the next morning. There wasnât a property to relocate us to so we had to pack our things and drive all the way back to Tampa on Memorial Day, the traffic turned o 6 hour drive into an 11 hour drive. The trip was refunded but lost a week of vacation that we were looking forward to for months. They said they didnât know about the termites but the infestation was severe and I donât believes they didnât know .NEVER AGAIN
This property is not as advertised. It is very run down, has a mice problem, and had a code violation posted by the city on the home during our stay. We spent multiple days and sleepless nights dealing with an exterminator. No other viable properties available for us to move to. Total disaster. Too long of a list of maintenance issues. ,
So enjoyed our stay here with a couple friends. Place has everything you need, is immaculate, fantastic view, and so close to either the beach in one direction and grocery stores in the other. Also located in a very nice residential neighborhood. Plan on returning! Thanks for the lovely stay!!
Our stay at the Anchor House was great. We came for mini season and trailered our 24ft boat. Having the boat ramp next to the house is a huge convenience and handled our truck and trailer without issue. Plenty of parking for multiple vehicles and trailers. The canal leading out to open water is 2-3 feet at low tide though narrow, reasonably marked with buoys and two reflective markers, easy run out to the reef. The outdoor space is very good, lots of outdoor seating, nice pool, grill and outdoor kitchen is functional. The billiard table on the patio is nice, kids had a great time playing on it. The house/decorations is a little on the older side but very homey and comfortable. AC nice and cold, beds were great. Kitchen was well appointed, had everything we needed. Would definitely consider staying at again.
We came to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The place was beautiful, and clean. We enjoyed the pool every day and the activities that the property offers! The house has plenty of room and is close to the grocery store, restaurants, and so many fun things to do throughout Marathon. Thanks for the unforgettable stay! We hope to come back again!
We loved the house! The sea weed was a little to much by the dock. We couldn't see any sea life. Loved the pool. Beds were comfy and the kitchen was well stocked. The one thing they need is beach chairs. Would of been nice to have when we went to the beach. Weve stayed where other houses have them. Very close to Publix and Winn Dixie. Coast to Coast pizza is delicious and right by Publix. Also love Key Fisheries. Brought back dips to snack on at night. Enjoy your time when you rent this house!
House is amazing, its in a great location, easy access to the ocean, very shallow outside bouys but theres a channel to navigate. Would definately stay here again and highly recommended!
We enjoyed our stay. The outside bar was great for watching Hockey Playoffs and having drinks after days spent fishing and lounging by the pool.
Our dog loved the freedom of a fully enclosed yard.
We really enjoyed the place - very clean and spacious with beach and grocery stores close without the hassle of going back onto highway traffic. We rented bikes which were handy to tour the area and get to the beach. The kayaks provided got lots of use.
We called Vacasa property services on a Sunday and reported minor issues with closet door and balcony door - we weren't looking for immediate service but an hour later we had a friendly handyman named Adam who looked after things - not used to that response - usually you wait on a 1-800 number for a long time to get someone but the immediate response is a rare thing these days.
We enjoyed our stay at the Anchor House. The house felt very clean, the bed was comfy, we enjoyed having the extra beach towels, and we loved the pool and fishing from the dock. The gravel drive was a tough on the dogs feet, but they seemed to enjoy their stay too. Our only disappointment was that the outside TV didn't work and we had lots of frustration with getting the keypad/house lock to work consistently. Otherwise - we had a great stay.
The house was beautiful, kitchen was spacious and the home is located in a great location. Sombrero beach is a 5-10 minute walk and its definitely worth visiting.
The dock was awesome as we had a manatee visit us one day!!
Spent a little over a week here for my 40th bday! House was as described. Could use a bit of updating but overall a great stay! Location is amazing!! Boat ramp next to the house was even more amazing! Had a couple slight issues but property manager was quick with response and repairs! Would definitely stay again!
Great location! Perfect if you are bringing your own boat. Nice to have two rooms with king beds. We were two couples traveling to enjoy boating and fishing. This unit is very well stocked and had plenty of extras we were not expecting. The outdoor spaces are very well done and a bonus in addition to the nice unit.
Location was great! Easy day trip to Key West or Key Largo. House was great for our family, we loved the pool and kayaks. We found crabs daily near the pool.
The oven control stopped working on our 1st day, the property manager was quick to get a repair guy out the next day and reimbursed us for a day.
Our only complaint was the sargassum smell. We were not prepared for the strong sewage smell. I should have researched more to see it was peak season, but we didnât experience the smell anywhere else even though we could see the seaweed on the beach. The houses on the canal should get together to put an aerator to keep the seaweed out.
I would recommend the home, maybe just not during peak sargassum season.
We love vacationing in the Keys! We chose this home due to having a boat ramp right at the property and what looked like easy ocean access. We loved the thought of pulling up and dropping the boat in the water. The home itself was nice although could use a little TLC⊠just a little sprucing up here and there would go a long way. We found everything was clean and for the most part ok. Ice maker didnât work - not the end of the world. The outside living space was nice. And the pool, while on the small side, was perfect for us. The listing says thereâs a sound dock but it was no where to be found. If you like a little music bring a Bluetooth speaker! The downside of this property for us was the water. The ad mentions âsome sea grassâ well, that was an understatement. The water does not wash out in that area and the seaweed is vast which caused an odor for our entire stay. You tend to get used to it but itâs not what we imagined. The day we arrived the boat ramp was unusable due to the seaweed⊠it was thick and smelled terrible. We waited 2 days until it manageable. The Chanel is a bit tricky to navigate. All in all our stay was good. Publix is close by and Sombrero beach at the end of the street was very nice. Many restaurants around and things to do. We enjoyed cooking our meals at the house and just relaxing. Decent rental but the water situation would prevent us from renting again.
