The most charming cozy cottage on a beautiful property
We had a nice stay at this charming historic cottage while my daughter and her friend competed at the annual Millbrook Horse Trials over 4 days. The kitchen had everything needed plus they included some extras in the fridge such as filtered water, ice, coffee, etc. We loved to see the chickens running around too. We hope to return next year and book this same place once we have the dates!
Mindy was onsite and readily available to answer any questions. We liked scoping out the large property, which she recommended. It was a perfect, soft space to land before/after long days at a weekend workshop at Omega Institute nearby.
The house is indeed situated on a beautiful bucolic farm but is also situated about 30 feet from a very busy road which is incredibly loud. Because the house is older and needs restoring, the windows are not equipped to handle the noise even when closed. While the barns and grounds are beautiful, the house itself is a bit shabby. We had hoped for a charming and serene place in the country and thus was not that.
Mindy and Williamâs farmhouse was a great blend of rustic charm and modern convenience. The house was meticulously clean and comfortable providing everything necessary in the kitchen for cooking and a giant television for nighttime entertainment. Hanging out with the assorted chickens and two goats was a daily treat as was the dozen eggs Mindy left in our refrigerator. Very short drive to the lovely town of Millbrook with great restaurants and a beautiful municipal park and another short drive to Innisfree Gardens which are simply spectacular. Mindy was always available if you should need anything. A truly lovely person. The house is close to route 82 so youâll hear the morning traffic but if youâre an early riser (which we arenât) then no problem. However, after our first day we were used to the traffic and it was never an issue after that. We had a great time.
The house was everything that it is advertised to be. When we arrived, we found it very clean and spacious enough for five adults and two dogs. The hosts were considerate and extremely gracious. The farm is picturesque, chickens and goats look very well cared for and added to the charm. âŠno worries if you are not an animal lover, the goats and chickens stay far enough away that you can simply not take any notice of them. The beautiful village of Millbrook is just 4 minutes down the road and Poughkeepsiei is 23 minutes in the other direction. We were there for a graduation weekend, but will be back soon. Easy access to NYC for a day trip, then back to the cottage for a quiet country night and exploring the Catskills the next day. Sounds like a great weekend to me.
Stayed in this renovated farmhouse for a very snowy weekend. Nicely redone and furnished with spacious living/dining area. Could have fit 2 more adults or 2-3 kids. Hosts were lovely and introduced us to the goats. Too snowy and icy to get outdoors or explore much but local village has shops and kitchen was stocked with pantry staples and bottled water, milk/creamers for coffee so arrival day grocery run was not needed. Bonus large picture window let us enjoy the abundant snow from the warmth of the living room. Would return to explore trails on the farm in nicer weather. Bonus #2 we got eggs from the hostâs chickens at the local market and they are multicolored and yummy. Driveway ended up with a couple inches of ice due to heavy storm but easy to navigate with jeep. *for those with bad knees there is a steep staircase but it has a sturdy banister and good stair treads with steps that appear steep but individual step height not too high for comfort. Pet friendly-leash is a must due to farm animals and wild critters (bears). Would stay again. We and our dog had a great weekend.
