While staying at The Nautilus Napier, our car was broken into in their carpark, which understandably caused significant stress. Unfortunately, we asked to leave early to address the situation and ensure our belongings were safe. We explained the circumstances to the hotel staff and requested a refund for the remaining night, but they were unable to accommodate our request due to their no-refund policy. While I understand policies are in place for a reason, I had hoped the hotel might have made an exception given the exceptional circumstances. The property itself was clean, but this experience left us feeling disappointed at a time when some understanding would have made a big difference.

Fine at the Right Price

We booked an Executive studio room with partial view but were given what appeared to be a family room (had a separate bedroom with twin beds as well as a queen/king bed in the lounge area). The spa bath was a nice addition although several jets weren't working. Overall the room was looking a little tired - marks on the tiles and furnishings - but was very clean and the bed was comfortable. We were on the ground floor and at first were a little concerned about road noise but that settled right down by the time we were ready for bed and remained quiet throughout the night. Only stayed one night but we were happy with our choice for the price paid.

Our stay at The Nautilus in Napier was distressing. Slippery, unmarked tiles led to us slipping injuring ourselves. The bathroom flooded, soaking our belongings, and staff refused to take responsibility, offering no assistance. A used cigarette was found in the kitchen cupboard. Management was rude, swore at me, and refused compensation, We spent the night unable to use the bathroom. This experience was traumatic and unacceptable.

Reception shut early at 8pm so if you had booked - and there was no mention of this when booking - it was a major drama to get checked in especially when the rude receptionist yells at you on the phone and demands a copy of your bank statement to prove that the bond taken off the card you provided wasnt stolen. A huge language barrier, so much that she had to text you her questions. Never ever have I been subjected to such rude behavior
