The property is located In the heart of downtown Nassau. It is very dated. Resort fee is charged twice, once through Expedia snd then through the hotel. My room was placed next to electrical room, so it was consistently noisy. Guest services were never going to change location just the floor. My room’s telephone was dead as well as the TV. The did fix the TV but the phone never connected to the front desk. I felt a little insulted when the guest service stated that I have to charge extra insurance to the room, like I couldn’t afford it. But when does hotels charge an extra $400 for insurance? Maybe this was why the hotel felt empty.

We had a great time and the hotel was very comfortable with access to everything. The only con is that ocean view is partial ocean view. When cleaning staff are cleaning there’s a constant noise right outside your room and you hear everything… if your room is by the elevator. Other than that, it was great!

Our new home in Nassau!

This has truly become our home away from home in Nassau! In July 2024, during the largest global IT outage ever, our airline placed us here for four unexpected days while trying to get us back to the U.S. We enjoyed our stay so much that we returned in April 2025 by choice. The staff, amenities, location, and overall charm of the hotel were outstanding. Having stayed at other, more well-known resorts on the island, we still prefer the British Colonial and everything it offers. Relaxing on the beach and waving to passing ships is an experience that simply can't be matched!

Overall, I think the British colonial is good value for moneys. It’s a beautiful hotel with a lovely small beach with plenty of chairs available. It has been renovated recently and looks new and fresh. The location is convenient to downtown. However, I have mixed feelings: here are the pros and cons Pros • Beautiful beach with soft sand and a gentle bottom • Friendly, welcoming staff • Good on-site dining options and a coffee bar • Walkable distance to downtown • Outdoor amenities including a fire pit and movie nights • Comfortable beds and quality pillows Cons • Adult pool is small and shallow • No on-site spa (access available at Margaritaville) • Cabanas cost $250/day but offer no shade • Limited shade overall; umbrellas are closed in even light wind, unlike other hotels with better solutions • Hallway noise is easily heard in rooms • inconsistent poolside service • No airport shuttle; transportation costs $50 USD each way • Very limited area for swimming or paddleboarding • Constant looped lounge music on the beach, plus noise from Señor Frogs and neighboring bandstand • Cruise ship horns can be disruptive and impact water safety • TVs do not support Netflix or paid movie rentals • Extra charges at check-in and mandatory Visa deposit slow the process and frustrate guests • Had to request an itemized bill multiple times
