The Essence Hotel at JFK was one of the lower priced hotels near JFK airport and is only 2 blocks away from the Jamaica AirTrain station. I arrived several hours before check-in to request bag storage so I can do tourist things without carrying my bag around all day. There is a fee for luggage storage, but the manager who assisted me offered me early check-in instead since a room was already available. The early check-in fee was lower than I expected, so I did that. My room was clean, tidy, and had everything I needed for my brief stay. It was also nice to have electrical outlets and USB charging ports on both sides of the bed. I would definitely stay here again for future visits.
Booked this place for a very short overnight on a long layover.
Unfortunately, they didn't have our reservation when we arrived. It took 40 minutes to sort out what happened. Given we only had 4 hours to sleep before we had to head back to the airport, those were an important 40 minutes.
Newly refurbished hotel in a back street near Jamaica railway station. Large room with aircon, fridge & coffee machine.
Room does not get cleaned, rubbish bin not emptied and you have to make your own bed every night. A glorified motel!
Small but cozy. Everything was nice except there were red stuff on the carpet like spilled juice and parking is horrible. The staff wasn't welcoming. He had us waiting for a good 15 minutes while entertaining/hoking with the first client. Although he acknowledged us, he did not apologize for the long wait. He just handed the key card. He did not advise breakfast time, the floor we were supposed to go or how to find theele vator.
We entered the room and the window was open. The bed had no top sheet and the bottom sheet was stained. One rough bath towel was dirty! The second one was OK so I dried off with a wet bath towel my husband used.
Our friendâs room was fine. The breakfast they provided was very nice.
It's old and smells old. It was clean enough. Strong cleaning chemical smell though. Towels were ancient, discolored and stained. Bed was surprisingly comfortable. Didn't like that there was no secondary lock on the door. Traveling alone so locks are important. Had to rig master lock so it wouldn't get opened again, accidentally. I also think it's wrong to charge $50 to check in a little early. Especially if the room is ready. I've never been charged an early check in fee. If the room isn't ready, that's fine. Unfortunately when you don't realize how easy it is to get to JFK, a place like this takes advantage of that. I realized to late and couldn't cancel. Convenient location, especially when you have a very early flight. Staff is apathetic.
