Cannot recommend highly enough. A small en-suite room with 2 bunk beds for ÂŁ36 a night - what is not to like. Sparklingly clean and access to kitchen with microwave and toaster. Rooms are newly designed with modern bathroom and one of the best showers I have had.
Not much storage space, a bedside locker would have helped by providing a surface to utilise or even a shelf over the radiator.
The photo is not the actual property- where is the alleyway on the right?
We needed some reasonably priced accommodation that could also take our dog. The Bunkhouse was a great option. Great to have a private room and bathroom. Only three rooms in total meant it was pretty quiet (although the internal doors do bang quite loudly).
The kitchen was fine, with a microwave for heating up food and plenty of crockery and utensils.
We had great communication from the manager in advance of our stay.
First time stay for three nights while visiting family. Vert clean throughout the hostel and updated to a high standard. Very nice ensuite shower room with towels provided which is good so you don't have to pack any. Comfortable bunk bed in the twin room we were in. It's a tiny hostel with only three bedrooms and the communal kitchen dinner but it has all the basics you need. It's also safe and secure because of the entry codes to the hostel itself as well as your room. It is dog friendly because one of the other guests had their sweet dog staying so that's a huge plus if you're looking for accommodation that accepts dogs. Hostel is right in Wigtown's main High Street with convenience of shops, cafes, pub etc but it was still quiet. Parking is not a problem on the High Street .Would definitely stay there again.
I stayed at the bunkhouse for two nights when taking part in running events in Dumfries & Galloway. I chose it primarily on cost. Itâs great value for a solo traveller and having a kitchen is a bonus.
However, the bunk bed wasnât very comfortable - very soft mattress and I could feel the springs - so I didnât sleep particularly well.
As we were leaving for the ferry, I felt rather guilty that the squeaky door hinges must have disturbed our fellow guests as we departed.
A drop of oil would work wonders!
A brilliant value place to stay
I like that it's run by a charity, Machar charity. There's everything you need here apart from staff but there's information to read. Very quiet. It's a very cool town
Not stayed in a hostel before so didnât know what to expect , I was pleasantly surprised with the property , it was clean and nicely decorated with quality fixtures and fittings and nice friendly staff , and at a very low price , will certainly stay again if needed in the future .
Very neat and clean, easy check in. Nice quite town and ample parking. Co op is feet away.
Things to improve: No ventilation system in room which lead to everything becoming moist and floor becomingslimy duento moisturiser. You have to keep window open to ensure ventilation but that lead to insects coming in.
No coffee or tea as cans were empty, although there is coffee machine. Milk, coffee tea could have been provided in common kitchen area.
I will definitely stay again but owners need to improve ventilation system at least
Lovely bunkhouse, could do with better cooking facilities itâs difficult to cook a meal using a microwave. Could have been provided with more glasses and china. We had to buy more glasses and mugs from the community shop.
Very simple property but had everything we needed. There is a chip shop next door, a shop a 2 min walk away and a pub right across the road and the locals were all very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
