The self check in process was easy and smooth. Highly recommend balcony with lake view! Breakfast was ok - wish there were more options, seemed more scarce compared to other buffets we’ve visited. Only complaint was it was noisy above us, early in the morning … it sounded like someone was moving furniture or something. Would stay here again however, fair price compared to Hallstatt.

There is much to recommend this property. The price is good, the location is right on the lake, and there is a ferry that can take you to Hallstatt, which is lovely. It was extraordinarily clean, self check-in was easy, the gentleman at the desk in the morning was friendly and helpful. However, I had a soft mattress and cheap, lumpy pillow, which would keep me from staying there again until they upgrade.

Beautiful view from our balcony overlooking Hallstadt Lake. Very quiet. Room was very basic but spotless and bed comfortable. Breakfast was enjoyable. Staff very accommodating with electricity converter.

Not that impressed with the hotel but it was close to Hallstatt and that’s what we wanted. The hotel was close to the boat dock and that made things nice. Our room was very small but we did like the view from the little deck. There is no elevator so we had to carry our bags up the stairs. Overall it is fine for just one night for us.

While the view is spectacular and the area idyllic, the front of house staff leave MUCH to be desired. There was miscommunication on reservations, with cancellations in order to jack up the prices when you try to book again. The guy running the checkout was extremely rude also and frankly should find a new career. I wish I could say I’ll be back, but not with that staff. Save yourself some hassle and get a different stay for Obertraun.

I loved the property, accessible to transportation to go to other towns such as Hallstatt. Nice walking/running/biking trail close by. Walkable to restaurants. Only thing I don’t love about the booking process is that you have to contact property 24 to 48 hrs prior to stay to get lockbox information. We had to call multiple times to get a hold of someone to provide us this code where it should be sent to your email the minute your reservation is confirmed and past the cancellation date. Overall tho good service and staff. Easy parking

Hotel had a beautiful lake view. Close to ferries and train. Easy to get to Hallstatt. Pizzeria Kegalbahn in town is a close walk and has good food. Less expensive than eating in Hallstatt.

We had a wonderful time in Obertraun at Hotel Haus am See. We will definitely try to stay here again in the future. For prospective guests: staying here is worth it—read the check in details that are sent, ask questions through the message portal on Expedia, and use google translate if you’re struggling. Our experience with the hotel staff was wonderful.

The only great thing about the room was its balcony and its serene view of the lake. The front desk attendant was racist and very hostile. I just asked for normal black coffee and was ready to pay for it as there aren’t any cafes nearby but I was asked to purchase the whole breakfast buffet. And there is no way coffee was given separately which is such a basic amenity. Location is close to the main area- 5-6 min drive. The room was very basic not many amenities. Another point of concern is safety of the guests as they never asked for our passports to check us in or out or check any identification of the individuals staying. Another one was that how there are misplaced steps on the property which are tripping hazard.

Management was not clear on ordering breakfast and when I tried to verify how, they were extremely rude - incredibly rude and insulting I wish I could upload the conversation... Breakfast was terrible with rotten fruit and stale breads for 18E No AC, no fan. Dingy old pillows Tiny room. I would never recommend this hotel for anything other than location. Location and view were beautiful; those were the only thing we enjoyed about the hotel. Pizzeria near by had fantastic food and service

The location is the best part by far. Simply stunning and great to stay on the lake. Great pizza place just a block or so away. Rooms have no fridge FYI and hotel is not fancy - even though it’s rather expensive. You’re paying for the location and it’s worth it.

Nice beds with an amazing view of lake. This property has one of the best breakfasts and there aren’t a lot of choices in the surrounding area. We visited mid-June and the dock/lake area not set up for summer. There is a beach next to the property. Hallstatt closed at 6 pm. Literally all but one or two restaurants and all the shops closed at 6. Not many options for dinner in Obertraun or Hallstatt. Apparently summer hadn’t yet “started” as the kids weren’t out of school.

Hotel Haus am See is surrounded by natural beauty. We loved the view of the lake, the numerous mountain bike and hiking trails. It has a cozy family restaurant close by and a few authentic coffee cafes. The rooms are very simple and very small but the little balcony made it better.

We booked this hotel because we want to be by the lake but honestly probably would have been able to get a nicer room a little farther from the lake and it would have been nicer. I think having a lake view would have been nice, but we had a Mountain View/aka view of the parking lot. The hotel is very old fashioned with keys for the rooms instead of key cards. They email on the day of with a self check in where you essentially enter a code into a mail box to retrieve your key and parking pass which costs 18 euro per night. I felt like there were a lot of hidden fees that I didn’t see listed on the site like 18 euro parking and 18 euro breakfast. The beds were not the worst but definitely not comfy. The bathroom was very narrow and the bathtub/shower was very high making it difficult to get in. And lastly the staff at check out were not very friendly. Overall our stay was not what we hoped but we did have a clean room with beds. The lake/surrounding area is very beautiful.

Gorgeous Lake View

You need to book the lake view rooms! Walking onto the balcony at all hours to admire the lake was the star of the show, especially when there's a boat playing live music in the evening. The owner, Franz, was so helpful to my elderly Asian mom. Her English isn't the best, and she told me he was patient and informative. Parking is 18EUR, but that's standard in that small area. The city enforces it, so the neighboring hotels do it too. The bathrooms are clean and were cleaned everyday. With all our activities, we missed the dinner at the hotel that everyone raves about. There's a pizza restaurant down the street that we decent and stayed open late, but next time we're back, we'll need to try the hotel's dinner!

Our holiday was spoilt by the unacceptable behaviour of the owners. Their communication style was downright crude & unfriendly. Examples - Can I request for sunny side eggs (during breakfast)? Female- “No!” Can I ask you about the heater in the room? Male: “I cannot talk to you. I’ve not eaten my breakfast yet!” On the positive side- the lake & mountain view from our room was superb.
