This was the resort equivalent of a cruise ship; that is, you have ala cart restaurants, as well as a buffet, you have swimming pools, and lounge chairs, and of course, you have the option for excursions! Do as little, or as much as your calendar and pocketbook allows! A great experience overall!

We Liked 98% Staffs are Friendly, so nice, always smiling, fast service... Except one guy, his name is "Carl..." who is "Asian Stigma" & not nice in service... My room is always very clean by good cleaners. Landscape is so beautiful & clean. Garden are pretty, multiple colors. Coast is clear. Beach is blue & so calm.... Food in buffet restaurants are so allure, good taste & safe... But Asian Restaurant is salty & staff are not friendly... food not Asian taste. The Team Tour "On The Beach Tour" is Friendly & Nice Service. We know and say big thank you Mr. Lary as abook tour guy; Mr. Joe as Tour Guy for our tour, and a driver tour guy, on Wednesday 17/Sept/2025

The staff were exceptionally helpful and polite. I wish more people spoke English because there were many Americans on the property. I was extremely disappointed with the DJ at the disco! He never played American music, or bothered to take requests for other music that wasn’t Latin music. He was very rude and whispered nasty remarks about the guest. I understood many of his comments and disgusted by his negative behavior while on vacation. My friends said they would never return to the hotel!

Wonderful Beach Destination! Good value!

Really enjoyed our stay! The hotel is closer to the airport and Liberia which really matters for excursions. If you are going to the national parks like Rincón, Tenorio etc you are much closer than if you stayed in Tamarindo. The resort was nice clean and located right on the beach..We only had the basic food package level and I thought the buffet food was pretty good. Other guests were sour on the food quality the best way I can describe it is good quality wedding catering. It is good but food mad is mass batches is also not quite restaurant quality. If you are picky about food you can upgrade and eat at the sit down oriental or Italian restaurants which were amazing! Overall really good value for the price.

Most everything about this resort was great. My only issue was getting around was a little inconvenient as you have to wait for a ride and at times this was a long wait. Other than that the staff, food and my room were great. Everyone was helpful and there was a variety of food to eat. I am vegetarian and I had no problem finding food to accommodate.

This resort exceeded our expectations based on reviews, pictures, and price. We definitely recommend upgrading to a Premium room for a low fee to enjoy all the amenities that comes with it. Customer service was hit or miss and food quality/options was average but we were still satisifed overall. Would definitely stay again.

The property was beautiful and well kept. The pictures give an appearance that the buildings were spread far apart but they were actually close together. So yes, there were stairs and you had to walk but it wasn’t too bad. The shuttle service was good and a big thank you to William for his kindness and being prompt with the shuttle. The room was clean and spacious and the air conditioning was excellent. The room cleaning service was excellent. Overall the staff were friendly. The pools were well maintained. The beach was amazing. However, the pools as well as everything else shuts down at 7pm. The lighting is scarce at dark and there is nothing to do and no outdoor entertainment after dark. It’s go eat dinner and go to bed. The food was okay however, the selection of food was not. If you want a big buffet, this is not the place. Also, the same foods were served everyday, with basically only one other main meat besides pork. Also, you had to provide your room number each time you entered the restaurant, staff seated you, and got your drink. It was not a place where you could just get up and get your drink on your own. Also, you could only eat the buffet once per meal and could not come and go. Overall, the resort was beautiful and the beach was great. If you are looking for a place very low key, quiet, and are okay with basic meals then this is the place. But, if you like to try a wide variety of foods/deserts then this is not the place.

We didn’t like the fact that we couldn’t have access to the hotel amenities until 11 am, we landed at 6:30am ,, although we understand that our room wouldn’t be ready until 3 pm, not having access to go inside the hotel was very disappointing., They were charging additional fees to go in early.

What a horrible experience,,,first night some guy got drunk at 3 am fought with his wife in hallway kicked out door security took 30 minutes and they still couldn't calm him down , he said he was going to be at everyone up, third day we set up a kayak tour from the hotel and the tour guide was late rude ,,he treated us as he was doing us a favor,,and we decided to skip,,the next day the tour guide is also the DJ at the pool and he treated all of us like if we owed him money, rude comments and calling us queria laughing making jokes,,,I will never ever recommend that place

We had an amazing stay at Occidental Papagayo! The resort grounds were beautifully maintained, and we really loved how everything was laid out. Although there’s a shuttle available, we only used it for check-in and check-out since everything felt conveniently close. Our premium bay room was perfect—the view was absolutely breathtaking. The entertainment in the evenings was just right for us, and we especially enjoyed the guitar and saxophone player. The premium bar offered incredible views and excellent service; a special thanks to Kattya and Mila for making our visits there extra enjoyable. Dining was a highlight as well. The buffet always had a nice variety—omelets at breakfast were a favorite, and the prime rib at lunch along with Costa Rican night were must-tries. We also dined at all three à la carte restaurants, each offering something unique and delicious. On our last day, we treated ourselves to the spa with a couples massage and facial. It was the perfect way to unwind after all of our excursions and made it a little easier to slide back into reality. We celebrated a birthday trip here and couldn’t have chosen a better place. It was truly memorable, and we’re already looking forward to returning next year!

They decided to do works at the pool with a pneumatic drill at 5.30am in the morning. They thought this was acceptable. The food and drinks were sub par but you get what you pay for - it was about 180 usd a night.
