What a cute little bungalow! If you read nothing further than this, donât forget to look at the stars at night and enjoy the quiet! Laura was an excellent host, very attentive, despite being on vacation herself, and gave us excellent directions to the house (thereâs no cell service so we followed her directions, not the GPS). The house was homey and perfectly suited for our needs. Thereâs tons of nice cookware, space, great recommendations in the guestbook, the views are phenomenal, and Escalante is about a 15 minute drive where you can refuel, grab coffee and food, groceries etc. We would stay there again!
This is a wonderful place to stay! The views from the house are stellar, it's easy driving to many hikes in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, and just a 10 minute drive into the town of Escalante. While it's close to Route 12, you can't hear any traffic from inside the house and there aren't any nearby neighbors. Laura was responsive to texts to help me get settled when I first arrived, and instructions throughout the house were very clear about how things work. Altogether a lovely visit.
Very good stay. Beautiful location and home. Needs better cooling and ventilation especially when temperature is above 80 degrees. Doors and blinds need maintenance. We'll supplied kitchen and furnishings. Close to parks.amd the town of Escalante for food.
The property is outside of the town of Escalante, so it's situated well if you want to to both Bryce (45 min) and Grand Staircase Escalante (15 min - to the entrance near Hole In the Rock Road). We had 2 couples in our group, and the house was great for us. Cooked dinner and had plenty of implements, but should count on bringing your own spices, oil, etc. There was a little bit there, but not much. Similarly, plan on bringing your own soap / shampoo / conditioner / etc. There was laundry detergent. I didn't see that in the listing, and am used to that stuff being available, so I wasn't totally prepared. The property, as the listing says, is on its own large piece of land so there are no neighbors around which was great. SO MANY STARS!! If you're coming at nighttime, or even in the daytime, it's a bit tricky to notice from the highway but the host gave us great directions. There is a small table and 4 chairs outside to sit on, but not really much in the way of patio furniture out there. A little more lounging stuff out there would be nice. Beds are comfy, particularly after we removed the eggcrate topper and plastic sheet! Really comfy mattress. Due to there not being shades on most of the windows, it is BRIGHT in the morning! It's a great spot, we would stay again for sure.
Excellent location for exploring Grand Staircase, Bryce Canyon and the Boulder mountains.
The property is located between Tropic and Escalante with zero neighbors. It was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed to prepare all of our meals. Great place.
Great location for exploring Bryce, Escalante, Capitol Reef, Boulder mountain, and adjacent areas. Nice modern kitchen with dining table, fridge had water and ice feature, washer/dryer, 2 full bathrooms, powerful shower, 2 bedrooms (one with king bed, one with double bed), inside was very clean. House gets warm with all the floor to ceiling windows. Only drawback is you canât open them to get cooler air in at night, but ceiling fans worked well. Neat round shaped house that worked perfectly for two friends exploring the parks! We each took a bedroom and had our own bathroom.
We had a great time staying at this unique home in Escalante. Even though it was cold outside we stayed nice and warm. Everything was very clean and we had everything we needed. The hiking was amazing, the area is beautiful and would definitely stay again.
Very well taken care of, comfortable house, played fun games, made lasting memories, enjoyed our stay. A little further away from Escalante than we've stayed in the past but it was secluded and was also kinda nice to have our privacy.
Very comfortable house nestled in the hills a fifteen minute drive from town. Comfortable beds with an equipped kitchen and access to a washer and dryer. Was perfect for the two of us,
We were a group of six good friends ages 70-75 who were on a week long trip through the National Parks of Utah. One couple who were in their camper most of the trip were happy to have a hot shower and slept on the couches in the living room quite comfortably. The other two couples had the 2 bedrooms. The house was well equipped and we cooked dinner each evening and had nice meals around the dining room table. It was quiet and far enough off the highway that we were not bothered by the occasional car passing by. We sat in the patio and watched the annular eclipse. At night the stars were spectacular. We used the home as a base to explore Grand Staircase/Escalante NM.
I had wonderful communication with Laura the homeowner. She helped us get in early enough to enjoy the eclipse away from the crowds in Bryce and responded promptly to all our questions. We had absolutely no complaints about the home or our interactions with Laura.
She left a notebook in the home which covered a lot of the details which helped. She gave us a list of restaurants and other places to go in the area.
I would advise folks to slow down as you approach the gate to the property. By the time the voice on googlemaps said "the destination is on the right" we were going too fast to stop and had to drive a couple of miles farther to the next rest stop to turn around.(Minor detail)
I would give this home 5 stars and would stay there again if we return to this beautiful area.

We first rode Sand holllow, coral pink and loved this location to ride escalante. The house is adorable on 30 acres. Well kept secret. My husband picked 110 mile loop through uncle Allenâs cabin, drove through escalante stair case national park - fueled up in escalante - then did hells backbone road and did an a long loop right back to the house.
We had four adults. The master bedroom was comfy. The other adults slept on the couch the next couple of nights. We hiked the lower calf falls and did Bryce Canyon one day. Love this area.
Pros: property was clean and location was very quiet and remote, and we enjoyed being able to see a night sky full of stars. Cons: the bed in the master was terrible. There was a plastic waterproof covering that not only made the mattress super hot, but it made crinkly noises every time you moved. The mattress also didnât fit properly in the bed frame, so it tended to bowl in towards the center. I slept on the living room sofa the first night because of this (in addition to there being some very thick fleece sheets on the bed). We found some other sheets that were in the dryer when we arrived that made it a bit more comfortable (plus we flipped the mattress over as it was wrong side up and stuffed the edges into the frame the best we could). It wouldâve been nice to have an outdoor grill and outside seating area (didnât pay much attention to this when I booked the property, so my fault for not catching that). It was kind of a pain to find some place to dump our trash, as we were headed west to Bryce when we left and didnât want to go out of the way to go back to Escalante where there are dumpsters. Lots of rules about what not to do (no fires, donât use one of the sinks in master bath, donât open back doors, donât use tub [this last one was mentioned in the description]). I think with some work and home maintenance this could be a great property. It did feel a bit too much like we were staying in someone elseâs home than in a rental property.
So much to say but only 1500 characters. to say it in !?
PROS: Near ESCALANTE. It can be quiet except when traffic passes or the stupid dogs up the road bark. Night Sky is AMAZING; & the frogs that sing at night. The coffee is good. Beautiful crystals decorate the house. Open kitchen with high ceiling peak makes a good impression. Strong WIFI & enough TV options even if much is from the accounts of former inhabs that forgot to logout. Shower is STRONG.
CONS: House is in a lowland. You look up in every direction & can't see the horizon. Can't watch the sun rise with your coffee, or set with a glass of wine. The house may sit on 50 acres but only a SMALL fraction is usable. Grounds are unkempt with dilapidating fences & piles of debris. There is evidence of past gardens, long abandoned. The feel is of being at an abandoned pioneer site that had a house plopped onto it. There is nowhere to walk to except up the driveway to the street. House is slow to warm and it gets hot on a sunny day. We arrived on a chilly, wet day. It took hours for the radiant heat to be felt. The light dimming shades do not block the sun. It got hot (low 80s with no AC)
Biggest complaint - There is only 1 way into the property & 1 working door in/out of the house. Bedroom patio doors are locked or unusable. This made me nervous.
If it sleeps 10, I can't figure how. There are 2 beds for 3. That puts 7 people in the living room on sofa beds and the floor. I suggest you bring your own pillow. No outlets or lamps by the master bed for reading/charging devices.
This home is special at all levels. It is completely peaceful, quiet and private. Although near Hwy 12, the most scenic highway in America, we never heard any vehicles, although we could see them at times go by (not too often) from certain spots. The home is very unusual architecturally, shaped like a hexagon with tons of windows, most floor-to -ceiling, to take advantage of the wonderful views. Not only are the details of the home quite attractive, the host has very good taste in the items which decorate the house and other appointments. This home is very well located for Bryce, Capitol Reef, Red Canyon, and other delights. Don't let this one get away. We highly recommend it as we did not want to leave, and certainly will be back.
This was a beautiful home in a beautiful location. We really appreciated the cleanliness of the home and all the decorations in the home - it was fun to look at all of them! This was a real diamond in the desert! We would definitely return.
Loved the location of this home - it's several miles west of Escalante, in a very private and peaceful location. The home was very clean, well stocked and comfortable. Would definitely stay here again.
The house is on a large, beautiful property, which you can see from many huge windows. It is very comfortable, with seating areas, dining table, big tv, nice kitchen and washer/dryer. The master bedroom is heavenly with more windows, king size bed and private bathroom. We went hiking everyday.
