We have been coming to the Henlopen Hotel every summer for well over 10 years. In recent years, they seemed to start sprucing up the hotel (new lobby floor, renovated oceanfront rooms, etc.). It's always been a great stay in an ideal location. However, this time when we showed up, our room was less than ideal. The sheets on the bed were dirty (there was a booger on the sheets near the head of the bed), there was black mold or mildew on the floor next to the bed, the toilet seat was broken/disconnected, and the rest of the room was just generally not as clean as it usually has been in the past. They did give us clean sheets when we asked for them. During our stay, it seemed as though the cleaning staff were overwhelmed as they didn't even get to our room on one of the days. Everyone who worked there was very friendly and welcoming and we'd like to go back again, but the general cleanliness of the rooms needs to improve and they probably need to fix some of the maintenance issues as well. Improvements I would make if I ran the hotel: 1. Make sure rooms have clean sheets. 2. Install showerheads with detachable shower wands. 3. Replace broken toilet seats. 4. Inspect rooms for cleanliness (clean up mildew/mold whenever present--that much mildew doesn't grow overnight). 5. Continue to renovate rooms as they had renovated the oceanfront rooms a few years ago.

Perfect place for a family vacation

We went for a family vacation and it was perfect. We had a great view of the ocean from our balcony. The hotel was steps away from the beach which made it super convenient for us to go back multiple times during the day. Room was super clean and spacious which was a plus for a family of four. Will definitely be booking again.

Great place

The room was beautiful but did have some existing sand on the floor when we checked in. (Probably hard to get it all since they are right on the beach). Location was amazing and the room was as spacious. I would come again!

Great place

The front desk staff was amazingly helpful as they juggled lots of people who wanted to get out on the beach and check in early. I appreciated that they had a large restroom with changing area so that it was easy to get on the beach before check-in. The rooms are clean and lovely. The location is on the end of the boardwalk. So a 5 to 10 minute walk from the restaurants and fun of the boardwalk chair and umbrella rental is plentiful on the beach

The room was a bit smaller than pictured, but we were only really in there to sleep and bath so it was fine. It was nice to be so close to the beach with parking included. The room felt clean and the staff was friendly. It's not a luxury stay, but for a couple with two kids it worked well.

We had a great experience staying here. They offered us to use showers and stay parked even after checkout time to enjoy the beach longer. The staff was very kind and the room was nice, clean, and all for a good price. Would stay again!

Outdated, unclean accommodations. Suite was stinky, floor was filthy, toilet overflowed, no shower curtain, bed linens were dingy and stinky. Location was good, but Hotel six might have been less grimy. Front desk looked like deer in your headlights in response to complaints. You do not always get what you pay for!

Location is great. Room was average. Pictures looked more updated than the room we stayed in. Furniture was dated but room was mostly clean except air condition vent really needed to be cleaned which made me hesitant to leave it running but we stayed during a hot week so not really an option. Staff was great and helpful. Wish parking spots were a little bigger. Very tight navigating garage to find parking.
