Home had not been cleaned and we did not stay. We arrived and host had not provided the updated access code for a newly installed lock. Was quickly responsive which was a plus. We entered the home after overlooking piles of trash by the front door and were immediately hit by the scent of cooking oil. Long story short, the home was not even in the condition required upon check-out. There were two pots of used cooking oil on the stove, food in the refrigerator, food remnants in the sink, garbage in/around the trash cans and one of the beds was used/uncleaned. Again, host was apologetic and offered to try to find a cleaner. At 8 pm on a Sunday night we were not inclined to wait around to see if this would be fixed. Host quickly refunded us what he described as the "full amount" but that was not the case. When I asked about the discrepancy, he replied that VRBO needed to refund the remaining amount. Three days after that conversation I have called VRBO two times and they say that the host did not refund the full amount possible on his end. VRBO has emailed him twice and attempted to call but he has not responded to them in the 48 hours since the first email was sent. All of this is especially disappointing since I said that I would leave a positive review once I had been fully refunded. Given that the host encouraged me to leave a five-star review, I wonder if a similar situation has happened in the past. I'm refraining from adding photos, hoping for my full refund.
