2 bedroom charming villa with hot tub in Megalochori , local architecture gem

Located under the church of Agios Anargyros with its wonderful bell tower, the two bedroom Villa Ivi is a charming retreat from the hustle and bustle of Fira and Oia. Sheltered from the Cycladic winds, the traffic free village of Megalochori provides a peaceful and sought-after alternative. The romantic Villa Ivi once provided the villagers with a safe haven from marauding pirates who invaded the island. Today the villa, with its cool vaulted interior, provides an enchanting holiday home.
Near to the picturesque village square with its Venetian architecture, the Villa Ivi is approached through painted blue doors which lead into a pretty and private cobbled courtyard. Olive trees in large terracotta pots add a lovely atmosphere as you enter and the outdoor heated Jacuzzi is perfect to relax in after a day at the beach.
Quant blue doors lead from the courtyard into the open-plan living area which houses the lounge, dining room and well-equipped kitchen. The spacious master bedroom, with high domed ceiling has a view of the courtyard. A large bathroom, with modern amenities serves this bedroom.
The second bedroom is a guest house that has its own entrance from the courtyard. The double bedroom is of a comfortable size and a small flight of stairs lead to the en-suite bathroom with shower.
This is a great villa for one or two couples or a small family wanting a private retreat from which to explore the island.

Location of the home : Megalochori is a lovely village located in the centre of Santorini, with white painted houses, beautiful churches, narrow cobble streets and a quant village atmosphere surrounded by vineyards. It provides a perfect base from where to explore the island of Santorini. To get to the best beaches of the island (Perivolos, Vlyhada, Red Beach) is just a 10 minutes’ drive. At the same distance is the capital (Fira). The village starting becoming popular the last years and has excellent restaurant options from traditional local tavernas to more gourmet options. A local bakery , mini-market, hairdresser and suparmarket are also available. You can also enjoy a visit to the local winery Gavalas for wine tasting (3 minutes distance from the villa).Closing I would say that Megalochori is a true reflection of the local Santorini experience!

Charming

Pictures don't adequately convey the authenticity and charm of this villa. It was both very modern, homey and comfortable, and yet it had an old world feel. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

Awesome Place to Honeymoon

We had a grand time! Our hosts (especially Ester) were very helpful and responsive, and a cleaning lady came each day to keep things looking great. There is a small cafe right across the street which has great food and live music every night (usually mandolin and guitar music). There is a 24 hour bakery up the street so you can always pick up the essentials. We had a blessed and adventurous honeymoon, and staying at this villa was a huge part of the greatness of the trip.

Four days on Santorini

We wanted to stay in a cave house, but not in the major centres and this property fit the bill. We really liked staying in this small town with bakeries and small restaurants within walking distances. A short drive took us anywhere we wanted to go on the island, so the location was perfect. The property manager met us at the beginning and end of our time and was very helpful with recommendations for the island. The cave house was comfortable and had everything we needed. We did not cook or eat here, but it was equipped if you want to. We loved having a hot tub to relax at the end of the day. A cleaner came in every day and took away garbage and changed the towels. A nice alternative to the busy caldera area.

Very Unique

This VRBO was very unique, main house and guest room separated by a small private courtyard. The town and house could not have been anymore cooler than it was. One suggestion is a hand rail for the bathroom stairs in the guest room. The experience was amazing and Ester is so pleasant. Not a place for anyone with mobility issues but that could be said for all of Santorini. Lots of hills but very beautiful.

Wonderful stay

The property was lovely and in a beautiful, quiet village. The location was perfect. It was easy to get around the island. The apartment had everything we needed. The only issue was with the steps up to on of the bathroom. I think it would be helpful to have some kind of railing. Otherwise it was perfect!

Beautiful villa Experience

So much privacy and space to enjoy an authentic stay in Santorini! Enjoy being tucked into the cave of the hillside that is seen in pictures of Greece. Peaceful, next to amazing restaurant we ate at every night. Different types of grocery options were given for delivery. Would love to stay here again.

First time visiting Santorini

We stayed in this charming Villa in the heart of the village of Megalochori. Clean, well equipped and comfortable. Our host Ester was waiting for us on arrival with plenty of helpful information about the surrounding area, and available if any questions arose during our stay. Visiting different parts of the island is fairly easy from here, using the local bus services but I would advise renting a car if possible. In my opinion this Villa was located in the best part of the island as it was quiet and peaceful away from the crowds and within easy travelling distance to all of the places of interest. There are also lots of lovely friendly restaurants and cafes close by. Fabulous Villa. Would definitely recommend 👌

Fun stay in the heart of Megalochori

We had a great experience staying at Petros’ villa. Ester was very helpful in greeting us and walking us through the important things to know about the property, although we weren’t expecting to have to walk (with our luggage) to the Villa from the closest large intersection. The Villa is in the heart of Megalochori, within walking distance of several great restaurants (Avlogyros was one of our favorites), bars, and ice cream places. The washer was very helpful to have as we were easily able to wash our clothes. We would have liked for the host(s) to have detergent on hand, but it was easy to buy at the local convenience store. The area tends to be a little buggy, but that can almost be expected when many villas are built into the sides of caves lol. Our only complaint was the keys/doors. There is a lot of wiggling and finagling that needs to be done to gain access to the Villa. If guests are ever in a hurry to gain access, the locks are not conducive to prompt entry. Overall the Villa was great for the price and Ester’s accessibility throughout our stay made the trip enjoyable. We felt very safe throughout our stay. Megalochori is a charming neighborhood with a good mix of locals and tourists, as well as easy access to buses and other transportation. Thanks Petros and Ester!

This is a lovely home built in 1900 carefully renovated. It is fully equipped and it has a private terrace with jacuzzi. I liked the huge red bathroom a lot. Th village of Megalochori where it is located is an authentic Greek village with tavernas and shops. The cleaning service was daily and there was 24 hours telephone support.

lovely house

This lovely house is in Megalochori, a quiet village away from the main tourist zones of Fira and Oia. The town lacks the breathtaking views, but gives you more of a sense of how the locals live, since it's not overrun by tourists. There's a small town square with restaurants and a mini-mart . Less than a five-minute walk away, on the main road, is the bakery, which serves baked goods , food and cooked meas. It's also the landmark for tourists and the bus stop, from which you can catch a bus to the beaches, Akrotiri, Fira, etc. The house it self is clean spacious and wll equipped

Beautiful village, very poor communication with owner

This property was a cave house built into the underside of a beautiful church. The village was very quaint and much quieter than other areas of Santorini. Unfortunately, the communication with the owner of this property was very poor. She never did initiate contact with me, despite me sending many messages through the Home Away and trying to call her directly. I did reach her by phone once and she said she would get back to me with answers to my questions. The day before we travelled, since I hadn't heard back from her I contacted HomeAway directly. This was a three hour experience of being on hold, getting disconnected and starting over from the beginning about five times. I did eventually receive an email from the owner, with no apology for the lack of communication ,and with basic arrival info. She did provide a phone number and email to contact the concierge, Ester. The email for Ester was incorrect and bounced back but I was able to reach her directly by phone the day before we arrived. Ester was great! She helped with arranging our car rental, a short 12 hours before our arrival! She met us near the property and recommended things to do. Ester did say that the she was also having trouble contacting the owner and was afraid that something was wrong. A couple of other items to note: The heated jacuzzi was ice cold when we arrived and it took more than 24 hours to heat up to a "warm" temp. This was a key feature of the property that lead us to choosing this rental so it was disappointing that it was not ready for us. Also, the internet was very very weak. We could check email with a lot of patience but that was about it. The parking area is a public lot outside the village. It is about 300 meter walk from the villa. The villa is separated into two different buildings as noted in the description. The stairs in the guest house leading up to the bath are a bit daunting at night, as other reviews stated. Some safety precautions should take place. Even a flash light provided would help. The bath tub in the main house is only for show. It is too big to fill up and does not have a stopper. The water heaters need 20 minutes each to warm up for showers which takes some planning. Overall, we enjoyed our stay as the village is wonderful. Ester was very helpful once we were able to contact her. However, due to the lack of communication and the stress this caused leading up to travel, I cannot recommend this property.

What an experience!

Staying at Villa Ivi in Megalchori Village provided a taste of what living in a Santorini village. Tavernas, shops, market and winery are all within a short walk. Our concierge, Ester, was AMAZING! She greeted us when we arrived from the airport, escorted us to the villa, showed us around and took the time to provide some helpful suggestions on places to eat and visit since my parents were traveling with us and had limited mobility. This last part was a lifesaver for our trip!! The recommendations she made were spot on which allowed everyone in my family to truly enjoy Santorini! Ester also coordinated a car rental which allowed for easier travel around the island. The only reason this review did not get 5s across the board was because I felt that the pictures and description of the guest room was not entirely accurate since there was no mention or picture of the steps needed to climb to get to the 2nd bathroom. Also, not sure about the ability to sleep 6 since the fold out sofa folded up on my 14 year old son on the 2nd night. He said he slept much better on the couch when it was not pulled out. Overall, I would still recommend this property to friends traveling to Santorini and, if available, stay here again when we return without my parents. :-)

Paradise in the perfect spot

This was a perfect vacation home, wonderful for our family of four with two different bedrooms separated by an exquisite courtyard with jacuzzi. Everything was beautiful. The town of Megalachori is the quintessential small Santorini town with several good restaurants and a very quiet atmosphere. We enjoyed it more than the more famous but way too crowded towns of Fira and Oia. Very close to everything if you rent a car, which I would advise to get around island. Go to beach at Perissa and also take boat trip to red beach, black beach, and white beach. Santorini is incredible place and this is the best place to stay on the island. Ester, the concierge, was wonderful in meeting us and telling us about places to visit and eat. Thank you for a fantastic spot!

Cave living In Megalochori 👍🏻

This is a unique property in the middle of a lovely Grecian village. Everyone should have a chance to live in a cave. Especially one with modern conveniences and a heated jacuzzi. We were met by a delightful agent who welcomed us and gave us many suggestions in order to enjoy the area. The villa was clean and had all we needed. The only suggestion we made was the second bedroom’s bathroom was located up some challenging stairs at night. Perhaps the addition of a railing would provide safety. The little village had restaurants and a few very nice shops within walking distance. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful house in a wonderful village

This apartment is so lovely. It's just as described, only more so. We had five people staying there (one child) and it was perfect for that number. Someone came to tidy up every day so that was a luxury. Our hostess Ester was great and completely responsive to all our questions. The courtyard is so relaxing and beautiful and the interior of the house is quintessential Greek village design. We were very happy to be staying in a small, not crowded village, away from the bustle of the more touristy towns. There are great shops and restaurants in Megalachori as well. We loved having coffee in the outdoor cafe in the town square - so relaxing and friendly. Also, Eleftheria helped us get a rental car from this great company called Santorini Cool Cars. The guy met us at the airport with the car, guided us to the house (only 10 minutes or so from the AP) AND let us drop the car off at the ferry when we were leaving. It was so convenient and really, a car is necessary if you want to explore the island properly. If you're going to Santorini, this is a perfect place to stay.
