Check your credit card statement

My Wife and I enjoyed our stay... but the truly disappointing thing was when reconciling my AMEX statement, the hotel charged me $401.93 over and above the room rate. I expected a charge for $40 or so for valet parking. When I spoke with the Hotels.com rep he told me the Desoto had charged me $350 for smoking in the room. Neither my wife or I have ever smoked. I have been cancer free for 6 years and took a lot of offense at that allegation. At NO time did the hotel reach out to me to state they were imposing this fee. Luckily I check my AMEX statements. Fair warning that you need to check your statements after a stay at the Desoto to assure you dont get added fees. I was told this evening that I would be getting a call from the Mgr after 09:00 tomorrow. Looking forward to their explanation of this charge and to get a credit to my account

I had high hopes for this hotel. Things started to go wrong when we tried to shower and found that we had no bath towels. The next day the door lock malfunctioned and we could not access our room. There was a terrible sewer smell in the lobby and 3rd floor hallway. Things happen, but the hotel staff were less than accommodating, one was discourteous to the point that I should have left. After the first maintenance man got us in to the room he disappeared, but the door still would not function. I waited an hour for him to return, but he did not. I had to call the front desk and ask twice for someone to come and fix the lock. All told, it took three maintenance people over two hours to fix the door. It's a beautiful, historic hotel, in the heart of downtown and is convenient to walk to see the city, however, that does not make up for poor service or discourteous staff. I will not return.

Not Close to 4-Star Quality Facility

Staff at all levels were pleasant, smiling, kind, engaged, attentive; no issues or concerns...in fact the opposite. But the facility was in poor repair; not clean; poor connectivity with the media & internet. The room and building were clearly in poor repair; worn and in need of updating. The first ironing board shook apart and the cover continued to get bunched up while trying to iron items; a large dead roach was found on the floor near the desk; the spout on the body wash fell off in use. There's more but this is enough to get the picture. Throughout this weekend, the staff was polite, friendly and courteous and I would consider staying just for their kind support. But many upgrades are needed with the facilities...esp for the price of the accommodations!

Paid the executive room couldn’t go out to balcony, I was told it was a safety concern. I wish I had known the issue and I would’ve paid for a standard room. The lighting in the bathroom is horrible. Bed was comfortable.

This location was very walkable to the river area and historic sites. Many food and drink locations near by. It was also on various transportation lines for trolley and bus which made exploring easier. My only complaint would be that the balconies in the rooms were not accessable and that left no option for fresh air.

This hotel is lovely in every way, from the hotel itself to the staff. It is situated in the historic section of Savannah and easy walking distance from everything. Our only problem was torrential rain that was not the fault of the hotel. But the valets even assisted us to our car with umbrellas!
