Overall, we all enjoyed our stay at the home. There was enough room for each couple, the house was spacious, well stocked, and decorated nicely. The location was lovely.Unfortunately, there are two areas of concern. First, the plumbing in the house had some issues. Iâm sure this happens over time and is hard to manage with different tenants coming in and out. There were numerous drips and leaks in the bathroom faucets, and the upstairs shower drain was blocked up. Lastly, the house was not cleaned well upon arrival.Again, I think this place has so much to offer and we would love to return, but hope that these few minor details would be addressed.
We stayed four nights and made trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It is a cozy place with quite a bit of character. The property manager was quick to respond to questions. There is no AC but lots of fans so be aware during the summer months but the twmperature was fine in September.
Cottage was in a great location. About 25 minutes from Winter Harbor for ferry to Bar Harbor and 45 minutes to Acadia. Quiet area - about 5 minutes to local beach area.
Overall a very good stay, we loved being on the quieter side of Acadia and enjoyed the beauty of the nearby Schoodic Peninsula. The cycling was amazing and we took advantage of many of the local hiking trails.
The house definitely met out needs and we were thrilled to be able to bring the dogs. It was clean, comfortable for sleeping, and it offered ample places to sit back and relax. The kids really appreciated the pool table. Susan was quick to respond to our questions and was available, if needed.
We did feel that the house could use a little added attention, repairing the screen doors and adding some updated kitchen cook wear. Nothing major, but would be helpful for future renters.
very busy road with fast traffic Hard to walk along Very woodsy great access to day trips Bar Harbor from Winter Harbor Ferry. We do not have Roku so could not watch TV
The house was overall a nice place for three adults to stay. Itâs VERY secluded, which we didnât mind. One major critique is that the listing says âat the beachâ and it is very much in the middle of Sorrento with no water in sight.
Some small repairs would go a long way. Lights and fans that didnât work, beams that fell off kitchen cabinets (one that almost hit me in the head), etc. Otherwise it was clean and comfortable.
Our stay was ok, but nothing to write home about. The listing looks idyllic and gives the impression itâs a beautiful quiet setting. The home sits right on the road. There is a hedge to give some sense of privacy, but youâll see and hear every car or bike that goes by.
The home is tired and has obvious wear and tear of being a rental. Several of the windows are missing screens and are unable to be opened. We never got the family room ceiling fan to work. This was a problem because the home doesnât have air conditioning. Most of the time, that should be fine. In July with temps always above 80, it was miserably hot and humid.
We knew going in that the house was a good drive to Acadia. We planned for it. If you want to be close to the park, this is not the rental for you. Itâs at least 45 minutes to Mount Desert Island if not longer with traffic. In that sense, this home is away from it all, including restaurants.
In terms of cleanliness, we arrived midweek the night before trash collection. I messaged that not all the trash would be picked up because it wasnât tagged and ready to go. I was told not to worry about it and anything not collected the property manager would come get. I was under the impression that meant someone would tale care of it the next day. Instead I messaged again a couple days later before it was picked up and we were no longer smelling it. Thereâs mold in the showers and in the washing machine as well.
Again, just ok.
We had a nice time in Maine. The house was fine for our stay. We visited Acadia most days and the location was an hour from MDI. Even though the only tv was in the basement, we were busy outdoors and really didn't miss it.
The hosts were easy-going and unintrusive. We spent the trip making day visits to Bar Harbor and within Acadia, and the evenings relaxing with a fire. Good heating, plenty of space to spread out for three of us, and clear instructions.
Very nicely built post and beam house. Clean and well stocked. Peaceful rustic location. Beautiful backyard. Parking space for 2 vehicles. Owners easy to communicate with and very responsive. Would stay again if in the area.
The home and property were beautiful and well designed. Its a lovely home with plenty of room for 4 adults and one child. The property was a little closer to the road than we expected. The overhead light in living room had at least one bulb missing which made the room a little dim for reading etc at night.
The house was more than accomodating and truly felt like a home away from home. We came to visit Bar Harbor and Acadia NP with our friends and pups. The location was very quiet and just what we needed after spending a few days visiting the busy town of Bar Harbor. The Winter Harbor part of Acadia was super close and such a nice part of the park since it was not very touristy and more geared to the outdoor enthusiasts.
The house was very tidy, the rooms were comfortable and the outdoor space was perfect for evening chats around the fire. The local store Dunbar's was our favorite place to get some local baked goods and seafood during our stay.
Overall, Post and Beam was in fact a hiker's dream and we enjoyed our time! Thank you
We had the best time in your serene location. Cute house, as advertised, and centrally located to both parts of Acadia National Park- though both are about a 20-30 minute drive.
We surprised my father in law with a trip to Acadia for his birthday. Rather than staying at a local hotel, we thought it would be fun to stay at the Post & Beam so that we could spend lots of time together, but still have our own spaces. Plus, we were able to bring the dogs! This home is close to many things, including Ellsworth, Schoodic, and Acadia and served as a great home base for our daily adventures downeast. Beds were comfortable, the deck offered a great place to relax, and the kitchen had all the basics that we needed. Susan, the property manager, was delightful to work with and was extremely responsive and efficient. I would recommend staying here if youâre looking for a home away from home experience.
