Pax Guest House is in a heritage building so it is important to know that some of the facilities are older. This did not impede our stay but it is something that visitors should be aware of before arriving. Both Gerard and Oda were wonderful hosts and made our time in Trinidad that much better. Gerard gave us daily tips on where to go and what to do. Oda provided us with the best breakfasts and hospitality. They even prepared a special meal for my birthday! The guest house is up the mountain and there are many switchbacks to reach the building. For this reason, we opted to have dinner at the guest house most nights. We felt very safe here and absolutely loved the hummingbird activity on the deck as well as the view of the valley. This is a special place and I would certainly come back.
Very unusual place to stay which is fascinating being located beside a monastery high above the plain below and away from the hurley burley of life. Well located outside of Port of Spain and above the main routes to the north east of the island. Charming and knowledgeable owner with a particular focus on birds and his wife could not have been more welcoming.
What a special place to have stayed! The Pax Guest House is located atop Mount Saint Augustine in one of the nicest locations on Trinidad. Fantastic views from this well-preserved guesthouse that dates to 1925. Fantastic hosts manage this property. They are very helpful and reliable. The guesthouse provides a very delicious breakfast in the morning. Guests should be mindful however that bathroom facilities for some rooms (not all) are shared with other guests.
The guest house is nestled just below Mount St Benedictâs monastery halfway up said mountain. As such the views are spectacular and the breeze is welcome in the face of the heat waves you can face in Trinidad. It has a decidedly olde worlde tenor with antiques throughout the common areas as well as the bedrooms. The proprietors are charming hosts and the continental breakfast is particularly good. This was my second stay. The highlight is seeing the droves of hummingbirds on the balcony which come to drink the sugar water hung in the tree. You can feel the beating of the wings.
Exactly my type of room where open windows fresh breeze, morning sunlight straight into the room , Clear view of Sunrise, no AC all thou their was Fan but even that I didn't Used it ,Best for Nature lovers.
It is lovely, peaceful place with a wonderful view, surrounded by trees with hummingbirds. The food is fresh, homemade, and very tasty. The managers are beyond wonderful and if i could give them more than 5 stars, i would. If you are looking for a resort, this is not it - which makes it so unique and special.
Beautiful place, very friendly and helpful people, wonderful terrace with masses of hummingbirds, fantastic view from the shared bathroom rooms on the first floor
The views are beautiful but AC in some rooms should be offered. There was breeze through the windows but still it was hot. The toilets and bathrooms needed some maintenance (rusty shower shelves, plumbing, etc.). Also breakfast was tiny and overpriced. The same plain omelette was given every day with a tiny slice of tomato and fruit, not enough for a grown adult to start their day with! The location was convenient in the hills close to areas needed but more should be offered for the rates. The hosts were friendly but itâs clear frugality has been taken to the extreme to maximize their profits over guest comfort. Mostly a good stay though.
A magical space. The oldest guest house in the Caribbean on the Estate of Mount St Benedict Monastery. Fantasic views, nature birds wildlife clean air and spring water . Stayed with partner and 25 year old son and extended my stay on a solo basis.
Food is delicious. Staff great . Oda and Gerard the managers are lovely people with great local and historical knowledge. The best place to stay in Trinidad ! A beautiful hidden gem!
