We enjoyed our stay at Villa Milagro. The location is on the more remote side of the island, a bit far from the east end where most restaurants and activities are located, so that’s something to keep in mind when planning your stay.We didn’t end up visiting Santa Maria Beach since it requires about a one-mile hike, and we had heard the beach itself is fairly rocky. That said, if we had stayed longer, we likely would have made the effort to check it out. There is some road noise, especially at night, which took a little getting used to. By the second night, it was much less of an issue—white noise definitely helps. On the plus side, we really enjoyed hearing the ocean waves throughout the night.During our stay, there was a leak in the hallway from the roof. We notified the host, who was responsive and said it would be taken care of.The unit itself was well-equipped and had everything we needed for a family of four. One of our favorite features was the grill on the balcony—we ended up cooking dinner there several evenings. The views are exactly as pictured—absolutely stunning. If we return, we might choose to stay closer to the east end for easier access to beaches and ferries to St. John. That said, for a first visit, this was a great base for exploring the island. If you have the time and physical endurance, definitely visit Mermaid’s Chair—it’s only about a seven-minute drive to the trailhead and offers beautiful views.
