After a long trip from the Bay Area, we got to our property at midnight, only to find that the key code provided didn't work. After waiting on a 15 minute hold we finally got a representative from the Grand Welcome property management company. He couldn't help us with the door, but said he had an emergency key lock box code for us. Turns out this didn't work either, and after about a half-an-hour of trying, he wasn't able to get ahold of any of the three emergency contacts that were listed.
Imagine getting through a 10 hour car ride in a blizzard, only to have your 8 and 5 year old kids standing in a doorway at 1:30am unable to get into shelter, and being told that there was nothing else that they could do for you. Luckily the Tamarack Lodge answered their phone, and had a single room that the five of us could use until sunrise.
The real kicker is that now Grand Welcome won't refund me for the entire fee for the night! They are claiming that the nightly fee that I can be reimbursed for is only about 60% of what I paid!
So basically, their lock system failed, their backup lock failed, their emergency contact system failed, they left us out in the cold to fend for ourselves with no solutions for us, and I'm stuck paying $160 to have that experience. What a joke.
The place was okay, a little beat up, old furniture, lean on the essentials like zip locks, foil, and paper towels, along with some interesting DIY construction choices, but fine enough for playing with our kids in the snow. However, I wouldn't stay here or anywhere that Grand Welcome management company runs ever again. Don't trust them, they won't take care of you.
