Staff was very polite and welcoming to us when arriving. We arrived in the rain without our umbrellas out and very lost. When we finally made to the hotel the staff made sure we were dried off and taken care of. We appreciate everything they've done and would highly recommend!

Love the Friendly Staff!

My husband and I stayed at the Nohga in Ueno in May 2025. The staff was so friendly and helpful! We weren’t used to the level of service they provided, especially at a hotel in this price range. The room wasn’t large, but it was clean and had everything we needed. We were able to have both of our carryons open in the room. It’s located near a 7-11 and is about a 7-minute walk to Ueno station. Right across the Main Street there is Ameya Yokocho, an area full of izakaya and shops. It’s also easy to get around Tokyo from Ueno station. So glad we stayed in Ueno instead of busier Shibuya or Shinjuku. Would stay here again.

Excellent staff Hotel policies are a little poor in regards to later checkouts (pay a fee for every hour up to 3 max) no ironing facilities in room. One iron for the whole hotel is unsatisfactory. No work station in room. This hotel is ok for tourists but unsuitable for business travellers

My husband and i spent three nights here after arriving in Japan. We found the hotel location was well located within easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops, but far enough away for quiet. The property is lovely with beautiful decor including a large balcony with many plants, which is rare for Tokyo. The rooms were small, but we made do. Everything was clean and well-appointed. It's a quiet atmosphere, but not sleepy or boring. The staff was exceedingly polite, professional, and helpful. They spoke enough English that communication for us, who unfortunately don't speak Japanese, wasn't an issue. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent, and we took full advantage. The ingredients were varied, both healthy and indulgent, and catered mainly to Western tastes. We especially appreciated the fresh fruit, light salad offerings, yogurt, and excellent croissants and other baked items. The coffee--both caffeinated and decaf options were very good. And the dining area is light-filled and spacious. We would book here again if we come back to Tokyo.

Wonderful staff and good location

After exploring the more popular neighborhoods of Tokyo, I am happy that we stayed in Ueno at the Nohga. The staff were always pleasant and helpful and they even invited us non-Japanese to participate as shrine carriers in a religious ritual and parade. The train station and Ueno Park were an easy 5-7 minute walk away. There was a big, noisy conglomeration of bars a short distance away, but the hotel itself is tucked away on a quiet block. Restaurant and second floor balcony sitting area were lovely. Room was on the small side; glad we went with the queen bed, which was comfortable.

Great location

Great location! Close to shops and train station. We were able to walk to Ueno Park and the street market. The hotel has a nice restaurant and they have good breakfast options and a breakfast bar. The outdoor patio was nice and relaxing.
