The lady at the front desk, is it Amelia? She makes me feel very welcome when checking in, and throughout the stay. Tending to any needs that arise, and is very nice. Just wanted to give her a shout out! Honestly, everyone is really nice. I just love this hotel. I stayed on my way traveling in from CA, and loved it so much that I decided to stay again on my way back out of TX. The bar, restaurant, safety, courtyard patio, clean/cozy room and lovely bed, are all reasons why I love this hotel.

A unique stay in 1930's (newly renovated) hotel. Rooms comfortable and clean, staff helpful and friendly, Gorgeous lobby and dining areas. We reserved a king suite with a private patio, which was a perfect spot for a private breakfast! The room included a decent continental breakfast, with a wide variety of offerings. I really enjoyed what looked like house made oatmeal muffins. Excellent coffee. The only con was the room doors seemed difficult to close without slamming in order to make it latch, so neighboring units closing multiple times were a bit annoying in the morning.

It's an old/historic property that has been renovated and nicely returned to service. It's a pleasure and a unique experience to stay there...I have more than ten times. The parking involves a "bag drag". Can't be helped, but it's still a "pain" each time.

This is a great hotel out in the middle of West Texas. The hotel was great, but the staff made it fantastic. They have a wonderful restaurant. A fun experience and we will definitely be back.

What an unexpected surprise; while traveling from Tucson, Arizona to West Texas are for our annual family reunion we decided to stop in Van Horn this time instead of Fort Stockton, and the Hotel El Captain was much more than we were expecting... This 1930's hotel has managed to retain its historic charm and our stay was fantastic from arrival to our reluctant departure; the staff was extremely helpful and their onsite restaurant was great with so many delicious options... We sat out on their courtyard for dinner and drinks with our little Shih Tzu along with many other guests with their pets... My wife and I would highly recommend the Hotel El Captain for a stay-over or just a stop to rest and enjoy good meal, dessert, or one of their many tapas...

The biggest issue is the noise: the hotel is right next to a train track, and trains pass by several times during the night. The windows offer no soundproofing at all, so it gets extremely loud. As a light sleeper, I was woken up multiple times and couldn’t rest properly. On top of that, the price is quite high for what you get. I really wanted to like this place, but the noise and cost just made it hard to recommend.

Hotel Capitan is always in a good spot for stopping in my way to and from Texas and CA. However the train is noisy, the rooms are so tiny yet very pricey. The restaurant is good but the free breakfast is not. Overall the best place available in that area.
