Sandbridge Fun

Multiple families together in this wonderful home for a great week at the beach, kayaking, fishing, swimming and loads of fun! This house was perfect for all of us and had everything we needed. The evening sunsets over the bay were absolutely breathtaking. We will be back! Thank you, Steve!

Our stay was fantastic! The home was gorgeous with an easy walk to the beach and kids loved having the kayaks and paddle board to hang out on the bay! We needed to contact the owner for a/c issues mid week and he was quick to respond, showed up and got everything back and working in no time! Great experience, would definitely recommend this home!

Framily Vacation 2023, a HUGGEE SUCCESS

Fantastic location. A short walk to the beach with the bag in the back yard offered the best of both worlds. The house is well stocked with everything you need including toilet paper and pool towels. Plenty of lounge chairs and out door seating as well. The downstairs kitchen is nice and close to the pool deck as well as a convenient bathroom. The saltwater pool is so nice. We loved playing pool volleyball and basketball. The outdoor basketball hoop is in a great spot and the driveway makes a nice court. The bedrooms are spacious and the beds comfortable. Great water pressure and plenty of hot water. The grill is tapped into the house gas so you don’t have to worry about running out of propane. The hosts are great people. Checking in to make sure everything was ok without being over bearing. I would definitely recommend this house to anyone looking at it. My group has probably stayed at 15 different rental properties from Maine to the outer banks and this one may be the best yet.

Excellent vacation home for a large group

We were 5 families with 9 parents and 12 teenagers/young adults. There is adequate space and excellent amenities. The view is beautiful and the short easy walk to beach was nice. We loved that we could easily walk to the ocean, but also have access to the bay for fishing and kayaking. Steven was helpful and accommodating throughout our stay! Ants were not a problem inside the house as others stated in their review. A few tips: 1. Bring bug spray and use it often!!! 2. The top floor has 4 bedrooms and only 1 bath so plan accordingly. We ended up having the two rooms of adults upstairs share that bathroom. The two rooms of kids showered and used their parents bathroom on the lower levels. Overall, we would book again!

Mccoy/Mcclure vacation 23

The house was beautiful! The view from the main room was breathtaking. The 4 bedrooms on the top floor had individual air conditioners which was amazing for the July heat. And 2 sets of washer/dryers made cleaning bath/beach towels so easy. The ocean was just a short walk away and never crowded. The owner, Steve, was very polite and prompt. We will definitely be returning. Thank you for an amazing family vacation!

Amazing Place and Location

We were beyond happy with our stay. Steve’s place was perfect for our family of 22. It was a beautiful house. Very nicely decorated and so spacious. We had an action packed week. Between the beach, the bay, and some fun local excursions (zip lining, water park and an Oyster Farming Boat Tour) Steve was such a gracious host. Always available when I reached out. He thought of everything to make our stay so enjoyable! House was very well appointed. Highly recommend if you are looking for a beach getaway! Thank You Steve!

This house is so much more than what you see online! The photos do not do it justice! We had 22 people and more than enough room. The view from the second floor deck onto the bay is beautiful! Both adults and kids enjoyed to the max, the kayaks, theater room and heated salt-water pool (it was beautiful and crystal clear all week!) The bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen is more than well-stocked (plus the first floor kitchenette is a bonus). Having bath towels, beach towels, sheets, toilet paper, and paper towels provided was so helpful. The walk to the beach is easy and within five minutes. In prior reviews, I read where ants were a problem. We saw one ant all week! The house was very clean and in order when we arrived. Being able to deal with the homeowner directly was great! Mr. Swisher communicated well, and always answered my texts quickly. We would definitely rent this house again in the future and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to have a great time!

Wonderful Beyond Words

Everything about our stay in the Big Blue House on the Bay was exceptional. The house is on the bay, but was only a very short walk to the beach--the best of both worlds. The kids and adults both spent a lot more time than we expected out in the bay on kayaks and the long board. The pool was also fantastic; we spent quite a bit of time playing basketball and volleyball in the pool. There is also a lovely ping pong table on this level and we had several enthusiastic ping pong tournaments. We only had one bad weather day, but nobody was bothered because some of us played board games (we brought some, but many, many were provided) while others watched classic movies in the movie theater. There was plenty of room to accommodate all 20 of us comfortably. Not having to bring bed linens and towels was huge. The two washers and dryers was a big bonus. The kitchen is exceedingly well stocked with pots, pans, mixing bowls, dishes, cups and utensils. There are two grills on the deck. The outdoor shower is exceptionally clean and we had all nine kids shower outside instead of inside the home. Sandbridge itself is a lovely vacation spot off the beaten path. The people are very friendly and helpful. Try Angela Kirkland at Sandbridge Portraits for family photos and Surf & Adventure for surfing lessons and kayak tours on the bay. Past reviewers have mentioned an ant problem. It actually isn't a problem as long as you keep food sealed and don't allow kids eat food upstairs and leave the remnants. When vacation was over we all wished we had another week. It was perfect!

Beautiful sunsets, but with too many issues to recommend

What I can corroborate about this place is that it does offer amazing sunset views - it's nicely situated on a small cove a few blocks off of the beach and the house is positioned such that the backside of it allows you to take in a nice evening from either the upstairs porch, or from the pool deck. It also includes a great video game & theater room. That's likely where I would stop in terms of having much positive to say about this place or our experience there. Despite what it says in the headline of the listing, this house is certainly not in 'New' condition. Rather, it's pretty run down, & obvious shortcuts taken when it was built/maintained/cleaned that are readily evident. From a gas stove and grill that was unreliable (we gave up trying after our initial round of hot dogs), to appliances that were just plain dirty, caked on dirt & dust in vents & on ceiling fans, black mold in the vents (confirmed by owner), & a very grimy upstairs shower. To make matters even worse, the house is infested with ants from top to bottom. The second fridge and freezer had a ton of ants in them (many dead), and we experienced a full on assault of ants on us for the remainder of the week. We had ants get into several of our guests' bags and clothing, and on separate occasions make it into our food requiring us to purchase replacement provisions. Each day entailed dedicated ant carcass clearing time. The owner of the property initially seemed helpful when he came out to try and help spray for ants & mitigate some damp/musty odors in the downstairs bedroom (he confirmed this as black mold btw). This progressed to his not being very helpful at all when his interventions resulted in not solving the problem(s) & he further balked at our asking for some sort of rebate (either help with food replacement costs or partial refund), suggesting rather that we end our vacation prematurely if it were that big of a problem for us. We explained that we had pre-booked several activities & all of our children had been looking forward to this trip for months - all to no avail. When Terminix was offered up as a potential mid-week solution, we stopped short of gassing the house our children were staying with us in on vacation. Again, it does have a nice/picturesque location & good features but is not at all well maintained. We made the best of the circumstances, but if quality of stay is important to you, I would NOT recommend staying at this property.

Spectacular Views, Great Location, Beautiful House

We had a fabulous family vacation and very much enjoyed this beautiful house. Location is everything and you can’t beat the spectacular views especially the sunset views which were stunning from the deck or family great room. It was a short 1 block walk to the beach. You do have to cross over the main road if that would be a concern with small kids but the beach path meant you didn’t have to walk along the main road to get to the beach. The house is decorated trendy with a modern farmhouse feel and seemed newer then typical Sandbridge homes and was clean. Lots of storage for our food and clothes with 2 laundry rooms and 3 refrigerators (bonus 2nd fridge in kitchen was fantastic) We also had an ant infestation as mentioned by previous posters but the owner was working on managing it with an exterminator and very responsive (and I believe it was more a time of year issue not a cleanliness issue). We also noticed the owner had promptly addressed the air temp issue raised by a previous post with individual room ACs in the 3rd floor bedrooms. We had 3 days of rain during our stay but the pool, kayaks, access to bay for fishing, hot tub and the movie theater made for fun rainy day activities. It is also a short walk to Baja outdoor bar with live entertainment(or breakfast). We were a full house as the house advertises it sleeps 21 and we had 21 people and felt very comfortable and spacious overall. Kitchen table was a little small but we were able to spread out outside. Our only suggestion for improvement if targeting larger family groups would be a bigger outside table on 2nd floor deck to accommodate more dining seating and more lounging chairs on the 2nd floor deck or around the pool so everyone can enjoy those views! Otherwise we loved the house and it’s location. Owner was very responsive to all our questions. Would recommend it and would come back again.

Family Reunion at Virginia Beach

We loved the fact that the location was close enough to the ocean and yet was on the bay. We did a lot of Kayaking which my family had not done previously. We also loved the Theatre room. Great place to stay!

Perfect house for a family reunion

Steve was very responsive and friendly. This home was perfect for 4 families to spend time together. The pool, movie room, hot tub, kayaks and paddle boards provided great entertainment. The second refrigerator was so necessary for this large group and the in-law suite downstairs was perfect! I would absolutely recommend this home for other renters.

Check in was easy
and the place was hot. Real hot. First they said it was because the last renters had doors open. Then it was that the AC broke on Friday. (But they had said it was hot too). Then the owner came around to fix it. Over and over. Then it couldn’t be fixed because there was a backordered part. Day 3 he brought over portable ac units. Day 6 he brought over a part from somewhere else and fixed it. There was a real shortage of paper towels, TP, dish washer soap, no hand soap. No dish towels or dishcloths. So we bought it for the house. One of our party took charge of shocking the hot tub. The pool was less than clean so the owner came to clean it. There were ants all over the 3rd floor
going home with the families housed up there. We were told the last renters had a lot of candy. On the other hand. From day 2 the owner was friendly and responsive. He brought over trash bags and toilet paper. He worked hard on the AC. The beds were comfy. The towels were clean. There were paddle boards and kayaks. Netflix and a theater room. Overall, you could do better for the price, but we had a great time anyway on our reunion.

Has potential

We enjoyed our time in Sandbridge and we thank you for being responsive with regards to the issues we encountered. All in all we had a wonderful time, but we would like to share some feedback to benefit future renters. 1 After being treated for ants at the beginning of the week, the ants returned to the third floor triple bed room and remained infested to the point that the kids moved their mattresses to the living room to sleep. 2 The double bunk third floor bedroom remained so hot, even after the AC was fixed, that the kids in that room had to do the same. The house rarely dropped below 78 our entire stay. 3 When we were searching for a remote control in the theatre, one of the kids pulled out a large sharp knife, a sign that the room was not cleaned appropriately in advance of our arrival or that the handyman that was trying to fix the AC was careless while working here. 4 Finally, one of our guests pointed out there is no locking gate to the pool and/or alarm from the back door of the house to the pool as required by law. This was not a concern for us with older kids but could be a liability if you have other guests staying with small kids. The area is lovely and location fantastic. I wish you luck in your future efforts to rent this home but I think you should address these issues before continuing to rent out your home.

Perfect spot for our 4 families!

This beach house was perfect and has it all! It’s right on the bay so the kids and adults did kayak, paddle board and fish. Very quick walk to the beach and the pool was fun! We took some great photos of the sunsets and sunrises from the large deck and hung out there often. We are sad it’s over. Would definitely stay there again!!
