Our family of 11 rented this house for 8 nights, in May of 2024. When we first arrived, the house was a bit more outdated than the photos. The house was not Clean, the two lower bedrooms had an awful odor that was musty/mildew mold like. There was visible mold on the ceiling fan, exposed electrical wires, a broken patio door and areas that had clearly not been cleaned in some time. We rented this house as it claimed to have 6 bedrooms, however, 2 were unusable due to the smell. With concerns of safety/mold, we reached out to the owner immediately. The owner claimed to have a mold inspection completed, reporting there was no mold found and that we could go back into the house. They would not produce the report which we requested, not sure howe a mold inspection could be completed in 3 hours of our request, on a Saturday. They never offered to clean the house or make any other concessions. The owner was unwilling to refund any of our money, $26K. We were forced to find other accommodations and rented rooms at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, knowing that the owner would be difficult to work with, however, our familyâs health and safety was of the upmost concern. There was no compromise offered by the owner, who clearly misrepresented the property. We have contacted VRBO 4 times now, before and since we left Hawaii, with no resolution. VRBO has reached out to the owner, and they have yet to respond. This owner is nonresponsive, and the property is a health risk. Renter Beware.
