I have stayed at this resort four times and have brought new customers each time. Our reservation was for the Tropical and they placed us in Colonial. The front desk clerk asked for all the emails to prove I have been there that many times. If I had brought my computer, I could have showed them. I could show dated pictures but that wasn't sufficient. For the first time, we couldn't get into Kyoto, with our friends traveling to Riviera Maya, for the first time ever. We stayed 7 nights and checked each day to see if we could get in but no luck. I think the check in staff could have been more accommodating or comped us with an upgrade for the number of times I have been here in 10 years. I was disappointed for the first time in all my visits. I will see if I return or find another resort in the Riviera Maya. On a positive note, Jose, at the Tropical swim up bar, was once again very kind. The resort maintenance was great as well as all the grounds keepers. They do a phenomenal job keeping the grounds groomed and clean. The rooms are very out of date and need some major renovations.

I love the variety of activities for the kids. I did not like that I booked the Tropical and was put in the Caribe. I booked the Tropical because we stayed at the Caribe last time and I wanted something different. I may be wrong but I believe we were only allowed the al a carte restaurants at the Caribe. I would have like to have tried some of the others at the Colonial or Tropical. However, my number one complaint about the resort is how late the shows are. There are two theaters and it would have been nice if at least one of them the show started at 8pm or even 8:30. We could barely stay awake long enough to enjoy the shows.

Overall our stay was fantastic. The beach and pool area are really nice and the ocean swimming is amazing. The resort is really well kept. Getting chairs in the morning is tough unless you are a really early riser. There are so many trails and paths to follow for some great walks on the property. It is a very busy resort and the buffet felt somewhat chaotic with so many people. There are activities such as mini-golf, bowling and a small water park but all of these extras are not included with the cost of the stay. Overall a great resort.

We booked our stay at Barceló Tropical and when we checked in we were given rooms in Colonial. When we made our reservation we selected rooms with 2 beds but were assigned rooms with a single bed. According to the check in clerk that’s all they had and could not accommodate is. We had to share beds although we specifically booked separate beds during reservation. The a/c in the did not work properly for the whole 11 day stay. The restaurants were way over crowded and food quality wasn’t always good. They do not have enough lounging chairs at the beach and guests were carrying chairs from the pool to the beach. Iong lines at lunch dinner and at the bar which all seemed under staffed.

Staff was accomodating, no pressure for anything. Great for a family or people who dont leave the resort. Always had service. We had some issues with our travel agent and the hotel stepped up and gave us multiple upgrades.
